Not doubting that some on his list were lazy fuckers but Hangeland is judging everyone by his standards. He needed to lift weights to be fit so they all should too. We've heard plenty of footballers say that lifting weights had an adverse effect on their body and game.

I read a few autobiographies from Liverpool players saying Steve Mcmanaman put minimal effort into training but then performed superbly on match day. Problem was some of the other players followed suit then didn't perform and this created the Spice Boys era.

There are numerous top quality players who didn't train hard, different players prepare differently. Lots of stories about Aguero being quite relaxed in training but there's barely a team in the world who wouldn't want him.

You could theorise that there is a link between his injury record and the attitude to training though.

NBA is/was filled with players who didn't take practice or gym seriously (Iverson best example), some just don't like to lift weights, some hate running, some hate tactical talk etc, there are few who try 100% at everything.

Adebayor did more than enough weight training lugging his wallet and all that God awful jewellery around.

You only have to watch Zaha a few weeks in a row to see he isn't the most committed. I used to watch Palace a lot & Zaha was way overrated, went to Man Utd failed there & back at Palace and hardly tearing up trees. The last chat I had with my Palace friends was them saying they hope Spurs go in for him cos they want a replacement.

Strange way to treat your highest assist and 3rd highest scorer. Then again some people on here would want a replacement for Eriksen.

Gabriel Batistuta apparently had bad ankles and never trained, then turned up for Fiorentina with Rui Csta and tore up the league. Some players have the discipline with eating and lifestyle that reduced training isn't an issue, but I don't think Ade can claim that.

Berbs was frustrating as he wasn't slow just didn't often sprint about.

Hangelaand wasn't a bad defender, I remember Spurs looking at him 5 or so years ago.

Maybe but someone's recent autobiography, Lampard's I think, said he also regularly turns up late for training and doesn't follow company conduct that well. He just puts forward the view that he'll hit a hat-trick at the weekend so there's no problem.

That sounds amazing, but let's look at figures: -
Zaha

Not sure what your point is. I meant it was strange your mates wanted rid of their highest assist and 3rd highest goalscorer this season.

3rd best of poor players is hardly going to be missed. That is like saying Blind Nuns United are going to miss Margret on the wing cos she's the 3rd best crosser in the team.

Weird article much more interested in what players do on the pitch than the gym

Lol yeah at Spurs they said he was shy etc but that does seem twattish behaviour at Fulham.

Maybe at that point he thought he was too good for them having been at Man U for a number of years.

Schwarzer even said the players approached jol about it and he told them to leave him alone, jol was protecting berba from having to interact with his teammates lol

Haangeland was an excellent defender. I think it's amusing and interesting what goes on behind closed doors considering most players are so out of touch with the fans. Hearing these snippets is great

One player who suffered from lifting too much weights was Agbonlahor who lost a yard of pace bulking up too much. He always got frustrated being out muscled by the likes of Rio and Terry he hit he weights too hard. He lost a bit of his explosion when in reality you'd think he would gain more

When Fulham travelled by plane to europe, the team used easyJet but berba used to get a private jet from fairoaks
