Players still lack proper fitness, Son and Deki not good fits for the system unfortunately. They need to stay wide and be able to beat defenders 1v1. Skipp seems to have one move, pass to Kulusevski and move in his space. Obviously things can't look perfect so soon and we had to sub our best defender, plus lost top 2 striker in the history of the club. It will look better with Perisic, Solomon and Lo Celso.

Yep, firing blanks. This would be ok but as its a season since they were on form, its a worry.

There should be but 11 was enough. A lot of work to be done on our defending. Especially if we are gonna be as open as this.

As others said the wingers aren't a great fit for this way of playing. Hopefully Ange can rip into them.

The defense just needs time and games to gel. Two new players in the summer one's first game today then losing Romero early. Just need to be patient with it.

And a new keeper behind who has been nervy from the off.

This ref is absolutely shocking.

This is the problem with the new discipline initiative. Allows referees ego to take over and make the game all about them. The best refs allow the focus to be on the game.

I’d consider Skipp for Lo Celso and Kulu for Solomon. Skipp and Kulu not doing enough. Need to see a bit more from Sonny and Richy as well to be fair.

Just as we have the context that Dier could be an okay alternative in the middle of back three under a deep sitting defence I think the same goes for Emerson with three defenders behind him in a deep block. Great goal, but his good defensive play only works when he has the ball in front of him.

Could Spence be an alternative with his recovery pace?

Poor defending from Royal for their 2nd goal but I suppose he made up for it with a good goal from him.
Postecoglou’s system is not working the way it should because Son and Kulusevski offer nothing out wide. It took to the 43 minute for Son to take on the FB and get a cross in and Kulusevski keeps cutting inside. Need Perisic on but he plays where Son is and making him captain means he’ll start every game and play majority of minutes.

Need to ditch the high line for the second half. Until the back 4 become comfortable with each other it’s suicidal. If it persists in the second half we just need to hope our front 3 wake up and we outscore Brentford

System looks nice. Bunch of our players don’t fit it. Which we sort of knew.

I’d like to see us sign a tricky winger with 1v1 threat and use Son up front over Richarlison going forward. For today, get Solomon or Perisic on asap.

We haven't defended that badly. The high line is dangerous but it was the softest penalty you'll ever see and it'll be the last one like that you'll see this season. And they were lucky with their second goal. We've largely defended well I think

Think Skipp off lo celso on would be the only change I'd make at this point. And after 60 mins look to get on Solomon and Perisic.

But some promising patterns of play, a few decent performances by new faces. Fully expecting a better performance in second half.
