Not heard that before what was it ?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but there was a clause in Eric Dier's contract where we could get him for pennies if we could offer him a better wage than Sporting could at the time, and we forced their hand. Left a bitter taste in their mouth.

Hercules in the ITK thread is clear that regarding GLC, Betis are being absolute twats. It sounds like everything has been done our end so if they adjust their position in time, he’s ours. I don’t see this scenario as pitchfork worthy, even if it fails to materialise. But it’s going to be very difficult to bare if it doesn’t happen

That’s the gist I got too. The outright fee is agreed, just haggling over how it’s paid (Betis’s end). Suggests if Betis come back with an acceptable structure, we’re good to go. Terms long since agreed with the player. Could all change for the better very quickly.

Well you're just making a straw man based out of nothing because I've spent recent weeks defending him including today so to suggest I think he's useless is a complete fallacy but as usual people can't argue the point and have to suggest people calm down.

Sorry mate, what point is there to argue? What factual basis do you have for there being any sort of issue behind the scenes? Or that this is different from any other time we have done deals?

You don't. Your spin is "it's an issue". Fine, you're welcome to your spin and I welcome your chance to share it. But it's not based on anything other than whimsy.

You know how often the principals get involved in the big deals I do - and I mean physical meetings? The one I exchanged on Friday we had 3 all party meetings. It started in January.

And even then, it's not the CEO of the company. It's someone else with delegated authority. I know DL likes to get involved to a greater degree, but to suggest that all business haults is not my experience in business. But still, more importantly, your assumption that this is different from the norm is just that. An assumption. Based on very little knowledge.

Not suggesting I have any more knowledge, but there's some straw clutching.

I'm telling you to calm down because 1) I think you should and 2) I'm trying to not make these threads go as nuclear, because we're getting about a billion reported posts about things getting shirty and off-topic.

So please excuse my lack of previous full response. Trust me, I'm more than capable of setting out what I think and why I think it.

Going to watch the game with a Sporting fan tonight (not live unfortunately).

I'll get some opinions and share later. He hasn't really impressed me whenever I've seen him - few times admittedly - so I'm hoping he shows more of what I've seen on yt

My issue was that you assumed that I thought Levy was useless and that I seemingly wanted this as evidence to prove that point but that couldn't be further from the case, I much much prefer the argument you set out here which is fair enough and I can appreciate your experience, I can also understand the desire for threads not to turn into a shit show and people take what should just be mild concern and run wild with it, I have concerns based on the little I know of how deals are done / my perception of Pochs reasoning to bring it up but it's just that, concern. I'm still backing Levy to make Poch happy.

Are they even interested though? I thought they let it be known to the media that they were pissed off with their name being mentioned to drum up interest in players - specifically in relation to the Fernandes deal.

What would possess a club to put a clause like that in a players contract? Purely idiotic tbh.

We will see. I don’t think there would be this much mentioned if there was no interest. I believe they may not have bid but struggle to believe they aren’t interested.

So, what should he do? He could say 'Yes, we speak regularly' which would invite a barrage of questions about the content of the coversations (which Poch clearly dislikes). It's the equivalent to the Wenger mantra of 'I didn't see it' which brings the questioning to an abrupt halt. If you choose to read it as Poch 'insinuating there is an issue' I guess that's your view of it but it smacks of paranoia IMO.

So giving the press subliminal messages that things are not rosey behind the scenes is better than just answering the questions? Come on mate, his comments have invited far more focus on him than the original questions did, so if he's doing it to deflect, he's really poor at deflecting.

And saying "maybe they should change my job title to coach" when he just signed a deal as a "manager" is pretty insinuating don't you think... It smacks of "I thought I signed a deal to manage the team, when it's clear the club want me to just coach the players and not allow me to get involved". I don't know how you took those comments, but that's certainly the interpretation of the press, therefore inviting a shed load of attention on himself

You've just illustrated that his last engagement with the Press was a bit of a disaster but then apparently think he should carry on giving them the opportunity to wind him up. I prefrer to believe that he took the opportunity to shut them down and stop the constant probing.
