Anyone seen this chap play?

Tottenham will make a cheeky summer bid for Napoli's Edinson Cavani - despite the Serie A goal machine's £80million price tag.
The Uruguayan has hit 25 league goals this term for third-placed Napoli and Spurs are willing to part with £30m to secure the 24-year-old's services - if they make the Champions League or not.
Spurs will face competition from big-spending Manchester City, but despite Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis holding out for £80m, the People report that he could be tempted by an offer of just under half that sum.

Red hot: Cavani has rocketed Napoli to third in Serie A in his first season with the club

Spurs's striking department has struggled for goals this season, with Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko mustering just 13 Barclays Premier League goals between them.
Harry Redknapp failed with several big money bids in January, including attempts to lure Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero and Villarreal's Giuseppe Rossi to White Hart Lane.

We were linked in the summer and I was horrified after watching him in the World Cup, although I would have done the same if I was told about Torres for the first time in the summer!

He's scored a ridiculous amount of goals this season, but the money being talked about is unreal. £30m and that might not be accepted? Andy fucking Carroll has singlehandedly destroyed the striker market.

Horrified by him in the world cup? He wasn't that bad - but even so I think its proven time and time again its not the best barometer. His stock will never be higher though, but unlike Carroll the goals he's scored this season at least provide some perspective of a high valuation...though who knows if he could keep it up..especially at another club.

I think 30m is the new 15m now. I cant even remember this bloke in the wc to be honest and I watched a lot of Uraguay.

Its all media bollocks of course but the way the agents raise the prices is so transparent.

Out shone by Saurez and Forlan at WC (if the WC is anything to go by nowadays look a Rooney Messi etc) if memories serves correct we had a chance to buy him last year before WC.

He was ok in the World Cup. Rooney was shit so form in a World Cup is not always something to go by.

He was available in the summer and we should have gone for him. This is why I am still angry at Levy and Harry for not bringing in another striker.

Harry has always said that we should only bring in someone if they are an improvement to what we already have. Well, this guy is without a doubt better than what we have.

I dont mean to bang on about missed opportunities in the transfer window but IMO we should have taken a gamble on a number of strikers over the last few windows.

Bizzare that we didnt.

Cavani had a good world cup, lets not forget, he was playing as a winger! This is his first season truley playing as a N.9 and see what happens. No way he will come to us though. For starters he has said that he wishes to stay in Italy for a long time now.

Thank God for that. I thought I'd wandered into a parallel universe for a while. Thanks for bringing us back to reality, COYS.

Cavani would be magic. Utter magic. 40m a bargain. Would make rather a good partner for Jermain Defoe I suspect, which makes him even more valuable. A cracking player, the type of which we've been after for some time. Is well suited to our brand of football and the league's style. He scores and creates goals and can play in various attacking positions.

But he's not coming.

We were offered both Cavani and Kjaer by Palermo for a fee of 28m euros but for some reason or another deemed them not good enough value....

I know, I'm really disappointed we didn't take it actually. Cavani is quality and has the type of link up play that would suit our midfield. I'm not saying he would of definetely been a hit but it may of been worth the risk. Kjaer has shown himself to be a very good defender as well, he's pretty good at bringing the ball out of defence.

If that is indeed the case, then our management team needs executing. Kjaer is a top top defender and would make an awesome partner for Kaboul in the long term (both being early 20's) and Cavani looks to have become a monster up front.

I do remember him playing as a winger in the WC come to mention it yes. A narrow winger, but a winger nonetheless, with Suarez and Forlan. Wow, Uruguay have some great attacking players!

Cavani has just been awesome for Napoli this year, scoring all types of goals, poachers, headers, a few long rangers. He also seems to score vital goals, like the opening or winning goal. I think he's now got the most goals in a single season for any player in Napoli's history. We have no chance now i'm afraid.

Very good player though, we need to take a risk on strikers before they bang in 30 goals and become a household name.

I'm pretty sure we where not offered anything like that (also Cavani really was pushing for a move to Inter at that time, and said he wanted to stay in Italy) where were used by palermo as a way to raise profile and offers for those two players.

This story is clearly bullshit, the Napoli chairman can hold out for as much as he wants, he's owned by palermo.

It was a funny sort of 4-3-3:

-------Suarez
--Forlan
---------------Cavani

There's a whole article on it here: http://timhi.wordpress.com/2010/06/27/suarez-cavani-and-forlan-uruguays-unwieldy-trio/

The Italian league is not the league it was, piss poor now so scoring so many goals there is not the achievement it once was.
