I personally think he did, or there was a point of no return and Levy and AVB agreed it was the best thing for everyone. AVB was showing signs of severe stress, just my opinion but would explain the lack of comments from him.

It's a figure of speech often used to denote an action taken due to unforeseen and unwanted circumstance resulting in a different outcome than planned or envisaged.
Eg, "we were forced (1) to abandon the picnic when the heavens (2) opened."
1. We weren't literally "forced" to abandon the picnic, but we didn't fancy soggy sandwiches.
2. There was no shining white light, no choir of angels, or man with a white beard, it just rained quite hard.

When did the AVB out thread start on here? When did the fans start booing at half time even when we were winning?
Everyone looks at Levy, but he's very reactive to the fans mood.
Which would be great if 80% of our fans weren't still living in 1984.
