I imagine RB will be very happy to draw us.
Tough game

Yeah, we’re all pleased to be playing them (rightly so as they are the 2nd easiest tie on paper) but you can be sure they’ll be as equally happy to get us too. They’ll fancy their chances and see it as a 50-50 game. 2nd leg back at theirs too.

The 50+1/being owned by RB being the main reason for all the hate is pretty funny to me, especially since most Leipzig supporters are proud they finally have a successful club to support.

Meanwhile, supporters of other clubs get far more upset about Red Bull owning teams than they do for:
-Teams being sponsored by betting companies
-Teams being sponsored by payday loan companies
-Teams owned by oil barons
-Teams being owned by slave trading countries & murderous regimes

Glad our priorities are in check...

Its what Red Bull do to the actual clubs that’s the issue. Salzburg were completely destroyed and history consigned to the bin as soon as Red Bull walked through the door. Along with the cynical fan ownership set up and buying their way up the leagues.

This isn’t about who is more scummy, they are all scummy in their own way. Red Bull are a bunch of cvnts though when it comes to football, especially European football, and don’t deserve to be given a pass because they have a young manager and young players. I mean, what self respecting football club wants a shitty energy drinks logo as their badge?

Not sure if mentioned already, but read that Timo Werner has a €30m release cause and is expected to leave in January...but Red Bull probably going to replace with with that Erling Braut Håland from the other Red Bull, who looks a bloody good striker... :cautious:
I'll would love for us to sign Timo Werner.

It's literally just the re-branding & corporate ownership that bothers you though, because they've done nothing outside of that that is "scummy"...

I work under the umbrella of Red Bull global football. Really, the only real complaint I can understand is the changing the crest/club name and their history. The rest of it, who cares?

Because they take players from Salzburg? What's the difference between that and Chelsea loaning 20 players to Vitesse?
Because they market their brand through the team name? Every single club in Europe has a sponsor on their kits. How is Red Bull different to Bayer Leverkusen when it comes to name/logo besides Leverkusen having a longer history?

I really don't understand the hate, especially when City Football Group has far more teams under their umbrella and their owners are legitimately horrid people.
The hate in Germany is the way they go against the ethos and spirit of the German approach to the club ownership. They also played hard and fast with the rules about sponsorship and naming conventions.

You are a little biased in this debate.

I personally am pissed off by all of the things you mentioned. My hatred is broad and plentiful.

Sadly, corporatism is the bane of the world. Where there is money to be made it comes in and usually sucks the the soul out.

Watched the 3-3 RB Leipzig-Dortmund draw tonight. Cracking game, but somewhat of an odd scoreline as the first Dortmund goal was poor goalkeeping from Leipzig and then Leipzig’s first two goals came from inexplicably awful unforced errors from Dortmund.

Leipzig are an interesting team, they remind me a lot of our first three seasons under Pochettino in that they relentlessly press and are well organized in doing so. Nagelsmann is the real deal. Interestingly, they were very content to cede posession to Dortmund and most of their chances came from pressing Dortmund into mistakes. This seems to be backed up by season long statistics, in the Bundesliga they possess the ball 53% of the time compared to Dortmund and Bayern who are at 59% and 62%, respectively. They break so effectively after winning the ball back, better than we did even at our best.

Where they differ from us in our early Pochettino days is athleticism. We were so physically imposing and athletically overpowering back then with Walker, Rose, fit Wanyama/Dier/Dembele, Son, Alli, and younger Kane. There’s nothing particularly overwhelming about Leipzig except their effort and organization.

They seem like a team that is much better than the sum of its parts as opposed to an incredible collection of talent like that Monaco team with Mbappe, Fabinho, Silva, Mendy, Lemar, Bakayoko, etc. a few years. Except for Timo Werner (who in relentless effort and finishing ability reminds me of young Kane), they don’t really have any individuals who jump off the screen for me.

Considering our current inability to grab hold of the midfield in games and general shakiness playing out of the back, I think they’ll be a tough matchup for us. They thrive on being well-organized and forcing individual mistakes, which we make a lot of. When you get through their press though, they are there to be had. Dortmund played through their backline with some relatively simple one touch football a few times and Leipzig didn’t have an answer for the pace of Sancho, Hakimi, and Reus.

I think Leipzig still might be a bit naïve in the way we were early in the Pochettino era and that’s a benefit for us having Mourinho, as he knows how to beat teams like that (see: 2015 League Cup Final). I’m glad we have two months or so to prepare for this and for Mourinho to instill his ideas and ethos. I think in our current state that Leipzig would really make us pay for our shakiness in the middle of the park and wastefulness in possession.

As side note, Achraf Hakimi is my dream Spurs right back signing. Incredible.

I saw the game as well and this is generally my take on them too however it is the only match I’ve ever seen of them and I’m wondering if the same is true for you. Might need a larger sample size to truly gauge their style of play and strengths/weaknesses.

Buying their way up the leagues is not admirable either. If you think re-branding football clubs is acceptable then we are on very different pages when it comes to the game I think it’s safe to say mate! How do you feel about MK Dons?

You’re slightly biased when it comes to Red Bull too I think...

Anyway, I got the draw I originally wanted, hopefully we smash them and then smash the plastic PSG in the quarters

What an absolute clusterfuck it is that we play Villa as close as possible before the Leipzig match, and Chelsea at 12.30 on the Saturday following!

Pathetic mess, it's as if they want us to go out.
