As if it needed confirming...
the BBC should have cut away long before they did.
It wasn't the BBC either, same feed on ESPN & Univision in the states. It was UEFA's distributed feed.Lot of people going for this angle on twitter, and it was my first reaction: fucking cut away and don't show a young man fighting for his life. But it's natural to look for someone to be angry with in times of extreme stress, and:
if the people at the bbc are humans, and I'm assuming they are, then they were just as much in shock as the rest of us. I'm not arrogant enough to claim I would have stayed cool, calm and collected in their position and just cut away from it. And I'm extremely arrogant. But I was shaking and nauseous....have to cut these guys some slack in that situation.
Woo, what coincidence. Actually when Muamba collapsed there was a Norwegian family in front of us they made first time a trip to WHL grandparents, mother and father and 2 children can you imagine what the went through. My sons uni mate came with us, his first ever match and a life long Spurs fan. We always joke that he’s a Jonah when we see him, which is quite rare these days. So guess who’s house my son was at today watching the match? You can’t make it up
I believe there was. I don't normally believe in fate, but it certainly felt like that.If I recall, wasn't there a cardiac surgeon who happened to be there, and was instrumental in keeping him alive? (Apologies again for breaking my no posting rule, and also sorry misremembering something)
Yes there was, a guy from St Bart's. The paramedic team leader that worked on him is a pal of mine and a proper yiddo. Without his initial work it could have been a lot different. Funny enough although we've known each other a long time we've never really talked about that day. It's your job, it's what you do to him.If I recall, wasn't there a cardiac surgeon who happened to be there, and was instrumental in keeping him alive? Gary lineker came out and apologised when they came back on air, said that the bbc wasnt in charge of the coverage and that uefa was and that they broke away as soon as they could. Im not convinced thats entirety true but at least shows awarenessLot of people going for this angle on twitter, and it was my first reaction: fucking cut away and don't show a young man fighting for his life. I work as a director of studio broadcasts in Norway around football games (and other sports) and unless BBC have a totally different setup to my employer (unlikely) then they could've easily cut to the studio or to black or to literally any other content. I don't buy that apology at all.Gary lineker came out and apologised when they came back on air, said that the bbc wasnt in charge of the coverage and that uefa was and that they broke away as soon as they could. I didn’t see the incident happen, but assume Kjaer was the first player to notice something was horribly wrong?
Although I'm not sure he did start CPR on him, his other actions were heroic.
It really is amazing how many people think it's possible to swallow your tongue and trying to prevent it could actually harm the person you are attempting to helpWhy do people believe this myth? It is impossible to swallow your tongue.
This situation just demonstrates how effective CPR is, I'd recommend anyone to get certified for basic aid. You never know when you'll need it.
