Redknapp just admitted on motd that he's watched this kid 2-3 times.

He then backtracked and said he's watched a lot of Ajax players as a few are interesting.

I'll have to cross myself at least 3 times to get over the shock. [disgustingly fake empathy voice]I'll pray for you.[/dfev]

Be interesting to see what this kid is like.

That's if they can get the ball

I'll have him if Modric goes. Tell you what though, the Ajax fans must be so annoyed, so many of their players are being linked with moves away, their better players too, Van der Wiel, Vertonghen, Eriksen, Siem de Jong & Alderweireld to name a few

Is Siem de Jong really one of their better players? I was under the impression he was a decent prospect, but nothing too good yet. Not really seen enough to make a judgement personally.

Got the number 10 shirt, 39 apps 17 goals last season, 52 & 16 the year before, i know he's still young but i'd say he is one of their better players, or very close to anyway.

Via Greg Stobart during an interview with Eriksen (Goal.com)

"Also asked him whether he might join Vertonghen at Spurs one day. He said 'maybe"'

In same interview he said he's staying at ajax next season and with ajax selling their captain doubt they'd sell their biggest prospect in same window

No he wouldn't come this window. But again I get the impression he would want guaranteed playing time similar to vertonghen so we may be a possible destination next season?

He was fairly anonymous against the Dutch, not that you can judge a player on a single game against a team who controlled possession

I agree. I thought he was taken off at the right time, as he was being asked to do something he isn't really equipped for.

Not sure we would ever get a sniff at him. I saw an interview with him and got the impression that he knows he can more or less have his pick of clubs, and got the feeling it would be Barca. Could be wrong.

He did say, in the interview, above, that we had a reputation for attacking football, and he clearly felt that we would be a step up from Ajax, so that, together with regular game time and linking up with Vertonghen again, might give us a chance - but I don't think so. Apart from anything else, one of teh things Hazard stressed over and over again, when he was hinting that he was joining us, before whoring himself out and then signing for the club he said he wouldn't want to play for because of the way they treated Lukaku , was how we had a rep for playing exciting, attacking football. So, players, now, saying this, I jsut think "yeah, and..."

I think that was always the case though and it was probably a little naive for anyone to think Hazard's comments were a positive indication that he was going to sign for us, I for one always thought his comments smacked of a "come and get me" message to clubs with deeper looser pockets (but maybe I'm just cynical and was correct by coincidence)

Personally I think its natural for a player to look for a positive to say about a club if directly questioned about them and I'd never take a comment from a player such as "spurs play great attacking football" or whatever to be an indication that he would sign for us or we can sign him unless we are his best option in terms of clubs who want him for A. His chances of silverware and B. the wage he will receive (with B being the major factor of course)

I'm not even worried about signing top top players, I'm more than happy for us to go back to the policy that saw us bring in Modric, Bale, Boateng, Berbatov etc and I wish we had still been employing it and signed the likes of Caybaye, Krul, Cisse, Ba, Ben Arfa and Tiote (it actually annoys me that Newcastle have been making the type of signings we used to make that made us so good while we have been chasing our tails trying to sign Rossi, Aguero and making loan moves and free be's)

It wasn't the Spurs play exciting football bit that made me think we had a chance of signing him, it was the I'll sign for Spurs (paraphrase) interview he gave on Belgian TV.

As for everything else you say, I would probably agree with you, but my right to an emotional reaction by being pissed off trumps you right to be reasonable and talk sense (y)

Yea, but even with everything he said I thought "this kid is begging the richer clubs to come for him" and I was shocked so many Spurs fans actually thought he was going to come after he went on the tv blabbing like that
