I fucking hope not.
I'd feel like my beloved spurs were bent over and taken from behind in the same way Newcastle bent Liverpool over after Liverpool themselves bent Chelsea over.

That's ridiculous. When we bought Soldado, he was a world class striker with a proven record in one of Europe's top leagues. Buying Andy Carroll off the back of a 9 goal season for £36m is clearly ridiculous, the only thing which was questionable about our purchase really was why AVB didn't play a system to support Soldado's style of play. £16m with add-ons for someone of Soldado's quality is incomparable to buying Andy Carroll for £36m.

Bottom line is, we both got shafted.
We could have come out better in the league of extraordinary shafts if we didn't but Robbie Keane back having swindled £20m from Liverpool.

Soldado is indeed a fucking amazing penalty taker.
Which means he'd have been even more of a waste of money the season before last when we didn't get a single penalty in the league.

What he is good at, as said at the time, is getting important goals against big teams - an attribute far too many on here were all too keen to cast aside with their unreasoned hatred of Dempsey for not being a different sort of player. An attribute that may have served us well last season.

That said, I was fine with selling him as we actually made money on a player getting to the wrong side of his career, that we may fairly have expected to have made a loss on - and we put that money to strengthening the squad (or not, depending on where you stand in the one step back for two steps forward, or vice versa, debate).

To echo others, why open this thread up? He scored a goal in an important match, fine - but with excellent young squad and a manager that most folk either wanted, or wanted something like (Bielsa-Lite ATM) could we not just go into one season with our fans united in being eager to get started and excited to see how it turns out rather that rehearsing another round of tearing lumps out of one another, because fan Y was a managers a, c and e loyalist, whereas fan Z was a managers b, d and f loyalist; or because we all rate players slightly differently and sometimes that rating causes us to totally disagree with someone else.

And breathe...

p.s. Congrats to Clint for somehow coming up with a way to legally bundle that ball over the line, last night. Kinda reminded me of our first win at OT in, was it, 20 years...COYS

I've said this so many times on this forum before: Dempsey will always do well for teams like Fulham, Seattle, the USA, because he can run the show. He is the star of those sides. His problem comes when he is just one good player amongst many, and then he goes missing, like with us. He was invisible in most matches. Fortunately, he wasn't a terrible buy or anything because he has a knack for scoring and being in the right place, so he bagged some important goals.

Except for the fact that when Donovan was in the side, he was always the star of the show and Dempsey still netted goals and did well.

Let's face it, if Dempsey wasn't American, you wouldn't be saying that.
But that's wrong. As someone who has watched Dempsey play for the US, Spurs, Fulham and Seattle, he is a good footballer. Gets important goals, makes good runs, and is always in the box. He is someone we really could afford to still have on our books. We really missed Dempsey last year, almost as much as we missed Bale. It was unfair to him that he was essentially signed as the replacement for Van Der Vaart because it ensured expectations would be absurdly high from the fans and he would never live up to them leading to garnering the amount of hate he got.

He's similar to Tim Cahill really. They both are not overly technically or athletically gifted, but they are big game players, score very important goals and are very passionate and hard working.

People will always complain about them, but the fact of the matter is, they score when its needed most.

We've had many many more gifted players, but these two have probably had more successful careers.

I applaud Clint, well done cowboy
