Barca players don't want him apparently

Not a big surprise. Aside from the fact that they've probably been angling to get Xavi in, the last thing they want is a manager who has a reputation for benching older, established stars and promoting youth and who also runs a notoriously physically-demanding training programme. They'll be told to step up, sit down or ship out.

People easily forget what a ruthless disciplinarian "nice cuddly" Pochettino is.

As I have written here before, I don't think Pochettino is especially comfortable managing older players who are accustomed to airing their own strong views and having influence. One reason Pochettino prefers to manage younger players is because they do what they're told.

If he wants to win things he'll have to learn to manage players at their peak.

That was one of the points I was making when I raised this some months ago. It was part of the "where did he go wrong?" debate in the early part of last season. I reckoned he wasn't finding it easy managing the likes of Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Rose at 30-ish, whereas he was comfortable with the same players at 25. When players have 10 years of experience at a high level, they start to expect to be listened to. The only player Pochettino shared authority with was Lloris.

None of them are at their peak, that is the problem. Maybe 3-4 years ago, even 2 but most of the older players can be shipped out now, Messi excepted.

If he can create a hard working youthful side while giving Messi and his talent a few privileges because of the goals and assists they will do well, it will even help Messi, if the rest of the team can fight, run and work he can concentrate on what he does best, create which will extend his career.

I agree with the wider point but I think Poch dealt with Dembele and Verts at their peak pretty well.

So understandable. Why would they think Poch can lead them to honours when he himself has none of such credentials? No disrespect to Poch, but his ship had truly sailed after getting the sack. If he had manly quit after the CL final, such big jobs will definitely crave for him. But now, his levels are only Sevilla, Napoli type of clubs, where they also see him as a project instead of him seeing others as projects. Both sides need rebuilding..
Enrique, Setien, Vilanova, Rijkard and Guardiola were all managers who didn't win anything before Barca though. They're a team who don't necessarily hire big name managers with lots of trophies to their name. Even some of the ones that have won things did so in small leagues. Hiring Poch would be in keeping with their usual approach.

True. But 3 of them are or very nearly are, considered Barca legends as players. Makes a difference.

Looks like koeman gets the barca job.

Imagine we appointed him, the meltdown would be another level.

Barca really are a basket case club.

Well Xavi is definitely their first choice but I think he will only take the job once the club is heading in the right direction. If anything I think it's harder for an ex-player since they have to keep that good feeling with the fans. Xavi knows the risk taking on the club right now so it will be tough for him early in his managerial career. Poch can take the risk and not worry too much about the fans turning since he's Espanyol anyway so will be used to it. Koeman certainly seems like a strong candidate as well though and has that experience to handle the pressure. I'm just saying Poch going there would not be such a big surprise either and it's not crucial to have won things. I still fancy Barca to continue winning things with their next manager. This was a bad season for them but they still finished 2nd and got to the CL quarter finals so it's not as bad as it appears.

You going to buy him out?
Maybe he'd do an Ashley and stick around like a bad smell despite the discontent. I can't see it though, that doesn't seem like him. I don't reckon he'll let Kane go, but if that scenario did happen it would be rightly too much for the fans to take or forgive.

To him they’re not negative, they’re his best case scenario. He wants us to fail to the extent that Levy has a completely unimaginable eureka moment and gives away the club worth an absolute fortune for free to whoever just so that he’s out of the club.
