I posted in the General football forum at the weekend that a few different journalists in Italy expect AC Milan to go in hard for Poch for next season. Gab Marcotti said he was their dream choice in the summer just gone if he left after the UCL Final. Instead they hired a fucking nobody who got sacked after seven games and replaced by a guy who was sacked by Inter Milan after less than a year in 2017.

Milan may not be among the giants of football now but they are a giant club and I'd back Poch to get them into shape. This is a club that haven't played in the Champions League for several years but on paper it should be easier to make the Top 4 in Italy with Milan than it was to make the Top 4 in England with Spurs which he did 4 out of 5 years. They were banned from playing in this year's Europa League because of some FFP rule so the fact they're 12th shows what a mess they are. Someone needs to clean it up and maybe it's the right challenge for Poch to do. He'll get better offers I'm sure but maybe the satisfaction of a challenge with a sleeping giant is better than taking over PSG or Real Madrid.
I've got a soft spot for Milan, so I would quite like that.

Could see Poch going to Milan - pretty sure he's said before he would like to manage in Italy one day.

Depends what he wants really. Would he prefer another challenge or 'project', taking a sleeping giant like Milan and challenging for the league again, or does he go to a Real Madrid / PSG where they're already at the top.

Wouldn't even be in the same universe, let alone a nearby ballpark. It would be disappointing, for sure, but Campbell's move was out-and-out treachery, fuelled by greed and vanity, and enabled with lies. We wanted Campbell to stay and he [vindictively] fucked us, whereas we wanted Poch to go and we gave him the elbow. No comparison to be made.

It wasn't a comparison as such, in the sense that he hasn't screwed us over. But would you still applaud him? Sing his name? Have argie banners with his name on?

It would certainly taint everything he's done for us. Especially if he managed to turn that shit show around

Wrote this in the Arsenal thread, but think it also fits here:

Can't believe any fans or pundits are even entertaining the idea of Poch. Sure, we sacked him, but if there's one clear quality that Poch has shown over these past few years is that he's a good, honest man with strong values. He could've left us countless times to go to Utd or Madrid but he chose to stay and honour his contract and his word. The man is a romantic, not a pragmatist like George Graham or Mourinho.

Not a fucking chance he goes to Arsenal.

I would be shocked if Poch went to Arsenal, he always speaks of his loyalty to Espanyol as why he’d never take the Barca job and he seems to be a man driven by his principles and scruples

Bigger and better jobs will be available to him soon
Loyalty? Principles? What are you all talking about? We sacked him!!!!
It's entirely up to Poch where he goes. Things would be different if he went to arsenal while under contract to us, but in this situation he has no obligations to us whatsoever. He owes us nothing.
If he goes to arsenal I will harbour no resentment towards him. As it is, I don't think he will, as it's a toxic little club that would ruin him, and he has more sense.

That was before we sacked him. I doubt he will go there but I could see why it might be tempting for him. I mean it keeps the family in London and together and all that. I suspect, though, he will wait around for another job. More because I suspect Arsenal is not a particularly attractive prospect and he would want to avoid the controversy.

For what its worth Allegri is odds on for the job. Poch is the fifth most likely option, but the odds arn't particularly low. The Wolves manager has also got good odds, while Arteta and Lunjburg are outsiders.

Espanyol also sacked him and he stated several times he wouldn't coach Barcelona because he's identified with their rivals. Same concept can be applied here

Yes, he doesn't owe us anything and he doesn't have any obligations to us, but going directly from Spurs to Arsenal goes against everything he stands for as a human being. This may seem ridiculous to some people in the cynical, money driven football world but Poch isn't like a lot of managers and players - he's a romantic who always spoke about fate and energy and was unflinchingly loyal to Levy when offers came in from other clubs. He's clearly a man of strong values and principles - it shone through in everything he did at Spurs - and regardless of us sacking him, he still clearly has a strong emotional connection to the club. There's no way he'd soil that by immediately running across town to our direct rivals. He's just not that type of bloke and I don't think he could live with himself.

I think Everton could be a good option for Poch, very unlikely he would do worse than silva, it’s a win win situation and they have got bags of money to throw about

I think it's doing the same thing over again. I think just like us with Mourinho, he probably wants a club that has a more direct chance at winning trophies.

I think that is also one of the misconceptions outsiders have about him fitting in at certain clubs because "he's used to working with a small budget". I think that is exactly what he wants to move away from, and get more financial freedom.

Yeah wherever he ends up I think it will be a top club who are favourites for silverware. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he ends up at PSG where not only does he already have a strong club connection but is also practically guaranteed trophies so he can get that monkey off his back.

I think the one exception may be Man Utd. Fergie clearly sees him as the anointed one and were he the one to finally turn them around the rewards would be massive.

Totally agree. I think that Utd is the only English club he would take (unless City came in for him).
