Thanks. I probably should have realized it would not have been about Gallagher in this thread.

£30m plus Rodon for Gray if they don’t get promoted. Do it.

Would be my no.1 choice for DM and RB. Immense talent and potential, and displays the intelligence and maturity to realise it.

Think he'll stay at Leeds a bit longer though. Wants to play first team with his younger brother Harry, a striker, and also a fantastic prospect.

Also think Leeds will want to keep him until he's a £100m+ player.

It's not necessarily that he is reluctant to come here it's that he's reluctant to leave Chelsea which isn't quite the same thing.
It's close though - Ange wants players who want to be here. Gallagher does not want to be here, and would only join if forced out of Chelsea - that is not the commitment Ange wants to see.

Gallagher at Palace was a warrior, it’s how he is, he plays with everything he has for the cause.

He is simply a Chelsea fan and would prefer to play for his boyhood club, doesn’t mean he won’t if he can’t get a deal with Chelsea play any different than he has for Chelsea or Palace. His mentality has always been first rate, the only question mark over him has been he is good technically but is he good enough at the very elite range. I have zero doubt he would give 100% in everything with us and be a leader at the club.

When he was at palace - he was still a Chelsea player, and was playing to get into the Chelsea squad.

But, Ange is looking for Players like Vicario who said he couldn't wait to get to Tottenham - not someone who says, sure if I can't stay at Chelsea, I'll consider it.

For the record - I think Gallagher would be a good fit here technically/tactically, I just think Ange will look elsewhere for a player who wants to join, rather than take a player who would accept a move, but would prefer not to join.

It’s going to be hard for him when he realises that so far as the Chelsea owners are concerned he’s not so much a Chelsea born and bred player who loves the club as an asset that can, and must, be sold at a profit.

I'm of a similar view as this.

Plenty of players - including some top class ones- who would move to us for the right money and opportunity. But very few/none who not only play for a direct rival but who are boyhood fans of a direct rival.

I just cannot see this transfer happening under any circumstances. If he didn't support Chelsea then yes, maybe.

Do you actually think he wouldn't give his best here for those reasons? To me, from the outside, he looks like a player with excellent mentality. I really doubt Ange would turn his nose up at such a player just because his first choice is to stay in the place he's happy and comfortable. That's absolutely fair imo.

I think the bigger question is whether he's worth spending the money on. Particularly when we already have a strong midfield and a player like Sarr who is quite similar imo.

I agree, with Sarr and Bentancur already in that role and Bergvall joining in the summer I can't see the need for Gallagher anymore.

We'd be better off looking for a HG rotation player for Bissouma.

I don’t disagree but I think this is still underestimating what Ange needs to really compete from the midfield next year. Perhaps Bergvall can contribute but putting significant expectations on him at the moment feels premature. If you look at what we have:

Bissouma
Bentancur
Sarr
Skipp
Hojbjerg

Of the above I’m still expecting PEH to go and Skipp to maybe stick around for HG and utility a bit longer. The others are key players but I’d argue Biss has been a bit variable in terms of form, Bentancur has had his injuries and Sarr has been the most consistent contributor this year. Overall whilst I’m happy with those noted, it’s not a lot of cover.

You can look at AM for more cover in terms of Maddison (indispensable) and Lo Celso (another I think we’d trade on if the right money is available) and I’m not seeing an enormous amount of options still.

My point in a nutshell is that I agree and hope that Bergvall gives us some additional cover and quality next year but I think we need another versatile option in there. We play an aggressive style of football and that momentum and intensity needs to be supported with extra legs at times, as well as options to cover form dips and injury.

Yeh I get your points, but for me that no.8 role (yeh I know Ange hates numbers) is where we have more options. With Sarr and Bentancur being the primary ones and Skipp able to cover there, as well as Bergvall.

At No. 6 we only have Bissouma as a primary player, Bentancur and Skipp can cover.

I just feel we need someone for the 6 role more than the 8.

I'm not against Gallagher coming in, but I feel there's probably a better fit player for us out there.

I'm not convinced Chelsea will need to sell Gallagher anyway. Hall is off to Newcastle for £30m. Then they'll be looking to sell Chalobah, Maatsen, Broja and Lukaku before they need to even think about Gallagher.

Fine by me - good if we can get him for some kind of cut-price deal (unlikely IMO), but we have far greater squad needs.

The problem is that Lukaku and
Maatsen are on loan so their wages are being paid elsewhere and Chalobah & Broja aren't among the highest wages to get off the books. Currently neither is Gallagher but for him to stay they'll have to make him one on a new contract and they'll end up saving nothing.
