Neves, Bissouma, Phillips or Tolisso who you taking ?
Phillips hands down for me.

He’s been a beast at Leeds but he’s proven he’s a superstar with England. Had it not been for his long term injury I think his transfer would be one of the main sagas of the summer. He has all the attributes of a perfect Conte midfielder, is a great character and leader, and of course, is homegrown.

Free Kicks aside Ward Prowse is nothing special.

Add Kalvin Phillips or Bissouma to Skipp, Bentancur and Højbjerg (happy to sacrifice the latter if it means getting both Philips and Bissouma). Then, most importantly, add proper attacking WBs on both flanks. Another CB who is comfortable on the ball to replace Sanchez would be nice. Plus add competition at LCB, and we're pretty much done. Oh, and another forward to replace Moura, preferably someone who can play across the front 3.

Hard to disagree and I'm now wholeheartedly riding Phillips hard. So thank you for the nudge.

Why not both? I think the pair in a midfield three would be quite good.
Agree although I'm sure we'll get another central midfielder instead of Ward-Prowse but I do think we need both types. A replacement for Winks would give us 4 quality options for that central midfield 2. An Eriksen type would give us a player who can play the inside forward role but also can slot into a 3. I think that's the optimum number in midfield to cover all competitions and give the flexibility to change formation.

I can imagine a universe where we sign Bale, Eriksen and Ward-Prowse though and neither score a free-kick for us.

Seems that we're being linked to JWP via the social media 'ITK' folk now. Be useful if we trade off some players we'd otherwise struggle to get rid of.

I guess they're probably quite happy with the KWP/Hojb swap, so I'd speculate that something like Winks/Rodon -> JWP might not be out of the realms of reality

As I said yesterday (or maybe the day before, fucked if I know). Anyway,

Hojbjerg & Winks to go them, and they give us JWP in return.

We streamline & improve our squad, they strengthen theirs.

Cheers!

I'm not sure a Hojbjerg reunion would be on the cards, considering the cloud he left under.
They're more likely to take someone HG they can profit from, which would open up the door for CCV, Rodon, Winks, Sessegnon, or Tanganga.

I wouldn't complain with either as both bring something to the table. But ward prowse is hardly a creative midfielder. More like a grafter who takes good set pieces. Mind, that sounds more a Conte player than Eriksen and I'm not sure exactly where eriksen would fit in under our present system. Though as an impact player would be awesome.

I think you are highly overrating JWP there. He does good set pieces, that counts for a lot, but his overall play is not better than Hojbjerg.

I didn't realise he'd left under bad terms.

If both were attainable, I would opt for both :p

If I had to pick one of the two, my heart says "Eriksen", but my head says Ward-Prowse is three years younger and a better natural fit for Conte's system.

Ward-Prowse is better suited to playing in a two-man CM within Conte's system than Eriksen. If he replaced Winks in the squad, that would leave us with more quality and depth in CM than we've had for a long time.

Eriksen can play in a two-man CM, but I'm not convinced he'd offer the right balance to be a regular starter there in a Conte team. He would be a very useful option off the bench if we're chasing a goal (coming on as a CAM in place of a CB). He'd also be a different option at LWF / RWF (assuming we end up with effective wing-backs, Moura & Bergwijn's superior pace is far less beneficial than Eriksen's creativity).

If we had one of the two on at all times, we'd be less reliant on Kane's long balls to unlock defences and we'd always have a set-piece specialist on-field who's superior to anyone we have currently.

Eriksen & Ward-Prowse in. Winks and Moura / Bergwijn out.

EDIT: Eriksen, Ward-Prowse & Bale in. Winks, Moura & Bergwijn out. :joyful:

Eriksen over JWP would leave us £40m+ to spend elswhere. Plus he's a better player anyway.

Eriksen and Kamara, both free, with Winks down the road (use his fee towards the signing on fees).

Skipp/Kamara and PEH/Bentacur for the CM two with Christian playing more AM/No.10.

Price is everything at the moment because we need around 8 new players in if we really want to challenge playing twice a week and we're not paying £40 million for every one.

JWP is an average player with excellent dead ball abilities - Eriksen much the better player but honestly I don't think we should go for either. Too much water under the bridge with Eriksen.
