I think he booked his ticket to south africa with the england squad today. He kept drogba silent all day in front of fabio.

Dawson has turned exceptional this season. On the ball and off the ball miles ahead of the rest of the CB pretenders vying for back up to Terry.

Seeing that big smile on his face today when the fans were singing "dawson for england"

the bloke deserves his place, dawson or terry ? its not even a question that needs answering in my book,

different class.

What can you say? He is just a fantastic player, one of the main reasons why we are 4th now. He has matured into one of the best centre backs in the country, and if he doesn't get to play in the world cup, it will be a travesty. Hopefully Capello will see that he's as good as Terry, and a much nicer person too.

Damien, you will never persuade me of that Dawson is a top drawer CB. You love him, and he is a loveable, die hard, swash buckling fella. I understand why he is adored by many. But their two most dangerous moments both came because Dawson is Dawson. He lacks intelligence and speed of brain and foot. Their goal was a let off but the moment when Dawson had his back to (Drogba/Malouda) and he was clean through but dwelled and let Dawson block his shot was incredibly fortuitous.

There a wankers on this forum that type things like Jenas is shit or Crouch is a disgrace.

You have never seen me type Dawson is shit or a disgrace or any other hyperbolic over exaggerated bollocks. When I criticise a player I provide analysis, logic, reasoning and even stats to support my opinion.

Football is an emotional game, which often reflects life's tribulations and nuances. Emotionally I can understand why Dawson is popular, I admire the blokes spirit and endeavour but I know we will always be vulnerable to quality strikers when he is around.

You need intelligent players who read the game and react with dexterity in every position, including CB.

As ever, I think Dawson was great today with the exception of one major error which should have cost us. But that is the indelible DNA of Dawson. And that is the reason he has never convinced me.

For the record, why not start this thread about Bassong who was equally outstanding today ?

At the start of 2008-2009 people were asking serious questions as to whether he could play effectively without Ledley or Woody to hold his hand—not without justification. He's answered those criticisms.

Terry had a shocker this afternoon.

One major error, perhaps balanced by an excellent sliding tackle which surely stopped a certain goal from Drogba midway through the second half...

In the B-C world, the negatives outweigh the positives about ten-to-one; only total perfection is worthy of true praise.

Outstanding yet again! Am glad he has come back with vengeance after a season and half where he looked like he had gone backwards.

BC. What does a player have to do to impress you. Never make a mistake throughout his whole carear? No one has a perfect match every week. If they did no goals would be scored. The factnis Dawson has performed more that admirably in virtually every may h this season. He has made few errors and actually been immense in at least two matches I an thjnk of. You are being an unrealistic pedant.

What a difference between Terry and Dawson. So glad that Capello was there to see the true class of Dawson in contrast to the highly flaky Terry.
