Goal.com saying we have started talking about a new contract.

Surprises me. Think it will be hard to keep Kaboul, Vertonghen, Dawson and Caulker all happy. All will want to start every week. Think it's possible to keep three happy and either a youngster or an older player but four will be a real challenge.

AVB has said he only wants 4 CB next season, hasnt he?

Good news if Dawson signs a new contract, and we go into next season with Kaboul, Verts, Caulker and Dawson. Its a strong set of center backs, as long as Kaboul is over his injury, and Dawson can stay fit.

Hmm, given AVB's proclivity for rotating CB pairings it shouldn't be an issue. Verts will get the odd game at LB and Caulker is still very young for a top level CB and shouldn't expect to start every single game. I think with those 4 we have the best CB options in the league (maybe marginally behind Utd) and if we're in Europe they'll all get plenty of games.

Great news. Love Dawson.

AvB wants 4 Centre backs. We have 4 centre backs of a high standard.

Super. Sorted. Put a tick in that box.

The less Levy has to concentrate on and distract him from a search for a forward the better.

Any other good centre backs coming through the academy?
Always hear about the full backs, midfielders and strikers but cant recall a centre back on loan or making waves in our youth system?

4 CBs is completely normal and I doubt Daws is on megabucks.

With Gallas buggering off we needn't worry about CBs for a while which is good.

Great news, if we want to build a squad to challenge on all fronts we need the strength in depth, Dawson is a better player than a lot give him credit.

i'm glad to see signing a new contract with Daws. Spurs can not count on Gallas anymore becouse he's a bit old and Dawson is definitely good future investment

Dawson, Caulker, Vertonghen and Kaboul would be good business for next season. If one gets injured we should look at Alderweireld.

Great news if true. Verts and Kaboul are first choice. Dawson is wise enough to know it's a squad game and Caulker has time and chances on his side. I think it can work. All 4 know that we always have CB injuries so plenty of opportunities will come up.

Gallas is most logically surplus to requirements but AVB likes him, so you never know. The most important thing is that Dawson appears to have proven his worth to AVB.

did the journalist not say we would be moving for Alderweireld in the summer? seems strange that we would have 5 really good CB's in him, daws, caulks, verts and kaboul! not a bad thing though!

Hats off to Mickey D. A lot, including myself, who were not in any way against him, thought it was probably time for him to move on. Instead, he said he was prepared to work his gajooniebollocks orf to prove himself.

As others have said, a decent squad option, and very handy in certain types of games.

p.s. RE William Gallas - I don't think it was just (or even) that AVB liked him. More that, having lost Ledley, Modric and VDV, with five new players, and with a hefty injury list that included anything between 4 and 7 1st teamers, at various times, I think AVB just really appreciated having a little experience and continuity in the team.
