It doesn't matter how much we debate it, Defoe is quite simply not the type of player that we need and in fact, no top team in the whole of Europe has a comparable type player as a regular starter.

He just isn't involved in play enough to warrant starting. He scored yesterday and could/should have had 2, but what else did he do? If Tevez played for us, or Suares, or Aguero, they would at the very least put serious pressure on the cb's and be able to retain the ball when it came to them.

We desperately need a striker who can offer us more than Defoe does. If Ade had played yesterday we would have won.

Not if we'd been relying on his goalscoring ability.

Hernandez at Utd? Most experts say Arsenal have been crying out for someone who just puts the ball in the back of the net. Liverpool are linked with Defoe and Bent, Chelsea have a striker who doesn't do much and doesn't score, Milan have Inzaghi, Real have Higuain, Bayern have Gomez...we had Lineker and Greaves. Defoe might not be in their class but a goalscorer is a very important commodity, maybe not for all teams, maybe not for all games, but a lot of them.

Upfront on his own isn't ideal, but he can score playing that role as he showed, and we can make it work. We just need to realise that our game has to change if you have someone who is looking to get in behind defences as opposed to someone looking to hold up the ball

i would like to see defoe partnered with ade for at least ten games - he needs a partner to be his most effective.

i thought he played well yesterday considering no support at all from vdv in first half

:rofl::rofl::rofl:EekEekEekEek

how many strikers have we had since defoe joined both times??

not one striker has he gelled with in any way shape or form. he is simply too hard to play with a partner. why?

cos he is a greedy selfish player 99% of time who is all about me me me...he does not have the intelligence ,top class movement or drive or whatever you want to put in here to have a partner..he does not care imo

Thats not really true though is it. He was very good with kanoute. I think Adebayor and Defoe have shown promising signs too in the little time they've had together.

i dont he is capable of forming partnership with anyone. thats just way he is im afraid. if we want to be really really top notch then like center back partnerships we have to get a top 2 who work well together and bring everything to the table.

Basically defoe's a good player - he just can't hold the ball up very well which is crucial for us to exploit our main strength, our midfield.

He'd do great in team with a more direct style, playing off a target man. And to be fair, he's not doing bad for us.

So you dont think he formed a good partnership with Kanoute? I'm not a massive Defoe fan and he frustrates me on occasions but that one season with Kanoute they definitely had a very good understanding. I've seen signs in some games this season when he's played with Adebayor that have been encouraging too.

Would Adebayor have gambled on Savic making a cock-up of his header like Defoe did?

I am sure that he would, I have found Adebayor to be pretty alert. Wasn't there a similar incident away to Newcastle where we got the penalty from?
