Dele Alli 'upset' as Tottenham star axed by Jose Mourinho to leave Spurs players 'stunned'

Knowing how good he can be, it really frustrates me watching Alli play this past 18 months or so. Seems like the hype has went to his head and he thinks he's world class. Watch how many times he runs in to defenders holding on to the ball too long, going nowhere then tries a fancy flick when he's about to lose the ball that never come off, incredibly frustrating. He was at his best when he kept it simple, moved the ball on and then timed his runs in to the box perfectly. Simple, effective and deadly.

If we could get that Alli back we'd have a real asset on our hands again, the way he plays at the minute he offers nothing so I honestly wouldn't mind if he was moved on.

I actually thought Dele was largely very good last season. He scored plenty of important goals in Kane/Son's absence.

Yeah, I thought that while not at his absolute best either creatively or goalscoring wise, he always put in a shift, especially in those games when injuries mounted up - i even thought he tracked back and tackled as well as i'd ever seen him when we were really struggling. Thought he started pre season really well as well, same motivation, then it decreased and first half against Everton he barely controlled the ball and was back to his 'flicks' and half hearted attempts to press/tackle. Weird and infuriating for a fan, so God knows how a manger would feel ! Tough love the way to go imo and IF he doesn't respond well, then may as well sell 'cos at his current level he will not dislodge an inform Gio/Son/Bale or (hopefully) N'Dombele.

I think with the Everton game, it was similar to those early games under Jose, where he appeared to be being played in Eriksen's 10/hook position, but he's not actually geared towards that role. He's more the floating, second striker role that allows him to arrive late, bring players in with lay offs and flicks. The breakthrough season where he played off Kane remains his high watermark, for just that reason.

But when your attack becomes a three pronged assault of probably the deadliest trio of world class forwards you can imagine... where does he fit in? And Kane is arguably a better "raumdeuter" or whatever its called than Dele.

I say we need him still, because of the insanity of the fixture list for the forseeable seasons. But as usual, its up to him.

Dele's never really shown that he can deliver unless the team is set up exactly the way that suits his style. in a 4-3-3 i just don't see any starting place for him and i don't think he's the type to hang around if he doesn't feel like he's first choice.

I agree with the first bit, for sure. The bolded bit, I dunno. I'm not sure he's actually that motivated, and he may be the type of lad who just sulks about, and we'd need to move him on, rather than him seek the move himself.

He's only recently worked up the motivation to microwave some baked beans, for heaven's sake... god knows how much he can be arsed to actually move.
