Hmmm considering our issues with home grown quota I'd be very surprised if we went out and spent money on a foreign player, who would want a decent length contract who was at the back end of their career. A loan possibly, but couldn't't see anything other than that.

This is opinion only.
With Doherty replacing Aurier, we have an extra spot for a foreign player I think. Add in the possible sale of Foyth and we should be fine.

This back up thing is really starting to annoy me. Why the fuck can't we have 3 or 4 strikers? I remember when we had Crouch, Keane, Defoe & Pavlyuchenko not so long ago, and before that we had Kanoute, Berbatov, Keane & Defoe, Mido too.

Now we can't seem to have two! It's fucking pathetic

Agree

Love Harry , and to me he is the best CF in europe, but ffs we as a club need more than one striker ffs.

The media seem to think that Harry is the only player in the history of world football that can't be challenged and no decent striker anywhere on the planet would want to join us whilst Harry is here.WTF!

Its time we had decent competition up front, we will always fall short if we don't, and fuck Harry up in the process.

If we sign Doherty and sold Aurier, I think the HG/ Associated Trained (AT) quota will resolve

Uefa specified 4 AT quota max from 8/25 CT/AT quota

so the AT quota will be Dele, RS, Harts & Doherty
And we have 1 available seat of non HG quota for new Striker
Well that depends on what else we are trying to do. Like I said the other day it's very much like doing Soduku as opposed to just filling in the blanks. The best available player for a certain position, may not always be the answer to complete the problem.

The answer is easy why we won't have 3 or 4 strikers. First of all, we played 2 strikers that time.
Most importantly we have Kane who will always play when is fit and is reliable - will always score +20 league goals. Same applies with every top established striker. They don't have backup or even if they have it's someone like Zirkzee for Bayern or Jović and Mariano who don't play for Real

If nothing else Costa and Suarez being on the market may open up other quality options for us elsewhere.

Cue the informative ratings.

It doesn't seem cut and dry that Aurier is leaving yet. Maybe Levy has decided to back JM on Doherty regardless because of the low fee and because the new season is almost upon us.

We played in a different way with a different system, and frankly when you look at our wide forward options now, they're on another level to what we had then. That said, not having 2 proper strikers is indeed criminal.

We don't need a back-up but an alternative style of player.
Back when we had 3 strikers such as Crouch, Keane, and Defoe they all offered something different depending on the opposition.

I see no value in getting Costa in unless we're that desperate that he's better than nothing.

Personally I would rather have someone who offers a pacy option who can break/stretch defences. They can then play up on their own, or with Kane dropping slightly deeper, or come on for him against tired defences.

we won't win anything either with current Diego Costa

Don't agree, having a nasty bad loser like him around in the changing room wouldn't harm our chances.
He wasn't great for many reasons last season, but if used wisely, JM would get exactly what he wants out of him.

The most annoying thing is we can’t even seem to stick to one target, it was the same in January & we ended up just leaving it

Not really.

From what I've read:
- Wilson: great, as long as he isn't the same price as a younger player with good potential (e.g. Edourad). £10m yes, £30m no.
- Costa: Expensive and doesn't score any more: Just no.
- Suarez: Expensive and still a great player, but potentially a PITA. Unlikely to happen because of several factors, but he is a racism manbiter so no shocks that people aren't keen - even if we can make a 'Baby Shark' type song for him ("Luis Suarez..nom-nom-nom-ne-nom")

None of the 'too old or too young or not PL proven or injury plagued' have applied.
Suarez it is then, for the song alone.

You mean the media can’t stick to us having one target. They just keep changing it so that they have something to write about but it doesn’t mean internally that they aren’t still chasing the same player the whole time.

Pace, break defences, can play alone or with another striker or come off the bench. lol. So basically you want a perfect striker, to play back up. Who are we gonna get that is that perfect striker you seek?

I agree up to a point. IMO, Kane is versatile enough that he could very effectively drop into the 10 role if there was a player to take on the 9 role. For me, Callum Wilson fits that bill at an affordable price (allegedly). I'd imagine that set up would work a lot better than Kane playing off a 2nd striker like Son, which is probably why we've never tried it. I wouldn't want Costa though.

We need a backup striker, I see that. But let’s set our sights a little lower. We just need a guy to plug in and do a job.

We used to play more of a 442 formation back then. Modern football tends to be 1 CF with dynamic AMF's behind now. We could have 4 strikers but 2 of them would never really play.
