Great news. Now that we haven't signed a defensive midfielder, I think he'll go on to have a Kane-esque breakout season.

From what I have seen of Stones I would even suggest Dier is the better of the two as it stands (just at centre back). The big thing with Stones is he is composed on the ball which is rare for a CB.

I would not be suprised if he gets a call up to England and in midfield as well, that is presuming he plays like he did against Everton for the remainder of the season.

Probably our best signing of the last few years (not much competition though!!)

Different players, Stones probably has more what you would call natural ability, He is a Rolls Royce of a player. Dier has a good all round game but has a lot of fight and lack of fear.

Dier could become a Roy Keane or Scott Parker if left to grow in midfield. Stones is more like a young Rio Ferdinand.

Isn't he technically Portuguese?
No technically he is English.

There are two reasons teams want English players. One is the HG rule (or more correctly, the foreign limitation rule) - which is your point, he is not considered HG. But the second reason, is the marketability of young English talent - players who are involved in the national squad. Dier will be part of the Senior squad before too long.

Good lad.

He's a fantastic prospect and has done very well since arriving in England.

To be honest I really did not expect him to have played so many games by this point of his Spurs career so credit is due, for sure.

I just hope, like Ledley, he settles into one position and masters it. He's too talented to just have a career as a utility man.

One thing I like about him is his desire to learn and desire on the pitch.

It's a rarity in this squad.

He'll be one of the most important players in the team this year.

Can see him and Mason complimenting each other in the heart of our midfield and making a real impact.

“If you look at the Training Centre, the young squad, the new stadium coming through - the club is in a great place and as long as we stick together, everything is looking very exciting,” Eric told us on Wednesday.

“There is a great core here of young players and even the likes of Christian, Erik, Kyle and Danny are all still young. We have a young team, a core of young English players and young players in general and there is such a great future for the club.”

COYS!!!

Good news.

Starting to amass a good selection of players on long deals. We just need to give them the time to develop as a team and we might see the benefit.

Just think we need to augment them with a few more experienced players in the meantime.

Ledley's time as a DM helped his career as a CB immensely in my opinion. My hope is Dier spends a season or 2 as DM and then moves back to CB and enjoys a Ledley Kingesque career as Spurs CB and captain.

It did indeed, and I agree.

Regarding where he ends up, it depends, I guess. What if he becomes a great DM?

You say you're glad he's with us but your assessment of him is so underwhelming it's unreal.

Aside from Lloris & Kane, there's no one else I'd rather have signed on a long term contract. He's a rock. Yes he's got lots to learn, especially as a DM, but generally he's been excellent for us. He's an excellent tackler, he can put in excellent crosses from the right, he's a hard man who doesn't get fazed & doesn't bottle out of any challenges, he's a 100 percent-er, future captain & he probably has an impressive member.

Massively glad he's signed an extension. Nicely done Spurs.

As I said in my response above to THOWIG...

"No, I don't rate him THAT highly yet, but he's got potential as he appears to be learning and adapting well"

If Shelvey doesn't work out there aren't many others to turn to

Great news, I'd honestly say, that he looks as good as King did at his age. You look back at King at 20/21 and he was still a bit rough around the edges. He also played equally well as a DM and CB and slotted in and didn't complain. I also felt that game him a more rounded view of the game and I think it will do Dier.

A great prospect.
King had explosive pace.

King had explosive pace.

Eric is one of the fastest players in training. I think he is a fantastic prospect. I called Kane as a future England CF before his break out season.

I am now calling out Eric Dier as a world class DM, England regular and Spurs captain. You heard it here first! (y)

I think playing in CM will be of huge benefit and experience to him. Should help him develop his awareness of what's going on around him, his ability on the ball, composure and his movement and passing... which will all help and aid in his development as a quality CB... King started his career often playing in CM.
