Good lad, I really don't think there is a cigarette paper's difference in quality between him and Stones. And if Stones is worth £30m +....

Neither do I, but Stones is getting played regularly at CB whereas Dier is not. I think that's why he gets noticed morem

he's a fairly decent versatile, young English player, and he'll be useful as a result of it. Good lad too. Still makes some mistakes but generally isn't a massive liability. Glad he's with us.

Good to see that we are rewarding players with new contracts when they deserve it. Dier will only continue to improve and its important to reward deserving players to keep them happy.

I would like to know where we are at now with the wage bill, though. I know ITK said it was stretched extremely thin last season. But even with the clear off this summer, im not sure we cleared much off the wage bill. After the new signings and the new contracts, which included that massive increase to Bentaleb, it seems to me we just replaced most of the wages among less amount of players. I dont have a problem with that at all. But I'm just wondering how much we conceivably have left in the wage bill. Honestly think we should dip into the unused transfer budget that was reserved for Witsel and Berahino and use it to pay off Ade so we can clear that £100k/wk+. Then use that space to give an increase to Kane again this winter.

We try to keep wages at around 55-60% of turnover. I think with turnover increasing we should be fine.

Great news - he has amazing potential and should be a top class player for us for many years to come.

Bit confused by this. How do we save wages by paying off Ade?
He will want his full contract paid up so where is the saving?
Only way we will save on his wages will be to fine him when he doesn't turn up for training.
Even if he does wouldn't reward him by paying off his contract allowing him to get even more by signing a free somewhere else
Let him rot .

If he didn't play at our club I reckon you'd rate him even higher.

You say you're glad he's with us but your assessment of him is so underwhelming it's unreal.

Aside from Lloris & Kane, there's no one else I'd rather have signed on a long term contract. He's a rock. Yes he's got lots to learn, especially as a DM, but generally he's been excellent for us. He's an excellent tackler, he can put in excellent crosses from the right, he's a hard man who doesn't get fazed & doesn't bottle out of any challenges, he's a 100 percent-er, future captain & he probably has an impressive member.

Massively glad he's signed an extension. Nicely done Spurs.

He's so incredibly underrated by fans of other teams in the EPL.

Great player, imo. England could have a brilliant pairing with him and Stones in the next few years...

Transfer budget and wage budget are 2 different things. While we technically wouldnt save anything, it would free up the wage bill if we took the ~£3.8m we still owe Ade until the end of his contract(alittle under 10 months), from the transfer budget(where we very clearly do have money available to spend seeing how we were apparently ready to buy Berahino and Witsel in the last few days of the window - whilst this also signals we have money in the wage budget, we'd be in much better position if that we cleared off). I dont know about anyone else, but I'd be willing to sacrifice £3.8m from the transfer budget if it meant clearing the wage budget a bit more to allow room for new contracts to those players who deserve it.

It's my thoughts he was approached last window and sounded out. Spurs will have been aware, in to his second season, and he's a name now, that his rapid rise with experience and skillset, will make him as desirable as Stones for sure.
So in effect it's a coup that Spurs have locked him down and for him he's now being paid accordingly with a term of contract that befits a young highly wanted ENGLISH talent.

Great player who could become brilliant, good with both feet and nice range of passing. Would love to see him have a good season and push towards the England squad, tough ask though.

So far, he seems to have saved us money as he could yet be the missing link in the defensive midfield position

From what I have seen of Stones I would even suggest Dier is the better of the two as it stands (just at centre back). The big thing with Stones is he is composed on the ball which is rare for a CB.

I would not be suprised if he gets a call up to England and in midfield as well, that is presuming he plays like he did against Everton for the remainder of the season.

Probably our best signing of the last few years (not much competition though!!)

Great news, I'd honestly say, that he looks as good as King did at his age. You look back at King at 20/21 and he was still a bit rough around the edges. He also played equally well as a DM and CB and slotted in and didn't complain. I also felt that game him a more rounded view of the game and I think it will do Dier.

A great prospect.

Isn't he technically Portuguese?
