Correct me if I'm wrong but have we lost a game with verts and fazio as a two ? Now I'm not saying they are shoe-ins but we don't concede many when these two play together and I can't think of a game we have lost when they have started together ? This has to be our cb partnership against Hull

they didn't look too hot against the greek side last week.

They would be my first choice as well.

“I spoke to Gareth Southgate and we were in complete agreement that it was the right thing to do.

“It not a case that I don't want to play for England, that couldn't be further from the truth.

“It has been a hectic start to the season for me and I have been delighted with the number of games I've played so far.

“Obviously, I have just moved clubs and even though I represent England I have not lived here since I was really young so I am still adapting to my new environment.”

Whilst Dier’s response indicates that he will spend the entire international break working on settling into the country, rather than focusing on his football, the youngster confirmed that he would remain training to improve his game, insisting that his absence from the Young Lions is not a chance for him to rest.

He added: “I just felt that this two-week period gives me the opportunity to work on parts of my game that I have had problems with over the past two months, personal elements I need to work on both physically and on the football pitch that I think will make me a better player for both club and country in the long-term.

“It is far from a rest. This is a period where I can spend time at my new club and put a lot of work in to improve because during the season these opportunities do not come around too often for Spurs or England because of the number of games we have to prepare for.”

2nd half your correct. Dier at right back didn't help he kept getting caught far too high up the pitch leaving these two exposed. Anyway unbeaten with these two there. They need to play together in the league now.

Dier is deceptively quick. Having Fazio and Vertonghen playing in defence together would be sluggish. But for some horrible finishing, we could've been on the end of a cricket score in Greece.

Odd comments for Dier to make about withdrawing from England camp. Not quite sure what to make of them, but sounds like he is a little unsettled.

This absolutely killed me from Southgate. Chin up Jenkinson :ROFLMAO:

re: Dier
"He has my blessing. I am completely comfortable with this. If we’d had a qualifier, we would have said: ‘Look, we need you for this,’ but we have Carl Jenkinson who can play there.”

This is why this guy is going to be a top player, his mentality and focus is spot on.

No. It really doesn't. It sounds like the utterances of a very level headed young man.

Probably not given I didn't say it in my post. Wont get far with two centre backs of the pace of Vertonghen and Fazio
Which combo has pace ? Coz dier and chiriches don't ? And we've tried everyone with kaboul and we all know what happened there? 3 games unbeaten with fazio and verts means they should be our no1 pairing. It can't get much worse that it already is let's be honest.

Very naive to think fazio and verts were the cause for so many chances to the Greeks in the 2nd half.... Dier was so horribly out of position and too high up the pitch that 2nd half as was Ben Davies and nobody seemed to track midfield runners that game either! Sometimes you have to watch and understand the game a little clearer before palming the blame solely on your centre halfs.

I just think that if you're that slow then your positioning and decision making has to be top notch, ala Terry & Mertesacker. So far, with his two reds, I think Fazio has already shown his decision making is horrific

Verts is on his way out of Spurs IMO no matter what manager we have. He didn't sign the new contract.

Really like what he's saying.

I hope Pochettino has had some input in this decision with a view to getting him playing as a CB in the next few games.

Listen I'm not his biggest fan but both of the reds were questionable ! Especially the city one when rose killed us and got caught with everyone pushed on! But partnerships are important at centre half, mertasaker is horrific without koscielny.... I just think these two deserve a go in the league as we don't have a better option at the min. We are poor all through the spine of our team at the min apart from Hugo
