I think every supporter wants to see this. But it seems Poch has other ideas. He's made it more difficult to drop Kaboul after making him captain.

Hard to say - Dier started the first game of the season at CB. I think in a perfect world, Poch probably envisioned Dier as the 2nd team CB this season, gaining experience and stepping up next season to the starting role. Walker's injury, Naughton's propensity to collect RCs, and his own injury, have pushed Dier to RB - not ideal, but born of necessity.

I think people forget how young some of these players are, and long-term it is better that they develop rather than simply throw them into the deep end to see if they can swim or sink. I am guessing the push to get Yedlin in has as much to do with putting Dier back in the CB position where he can train and prepare to be our first choice CB.

As reliable as my best mate and a spurs fan who runs a top club in london(libertine) can be ? I was in there a few weeks previous and saw Lennon rose and naughton off their heads! Lennon didn't turn up for training the next day and hasn't really been involved since. Is it because you don't want it to be true that you mock my info ?
No , it doesn't bother me either way as I have no control over the situation and if it's general knowledge then I'm quite sure that Poch will get to hear about it. I was just wondering whether it was hearsay or there was some substance behind it. There's always plenty of rumours floating around on the internet and I don't know you so how am I supposed to know if what you are saying is true based on your original post?

Agree. A few website have linked us with a move for Moreno in January. If we do sign him and probably sell Vlad that still leaves us with Kaboul, Vert, Fazio, Dier, + Moreno (who will defo be a Poch buy). You would assume Poch would favour playing Moreno regularly. Interesting to see how much game time Dier gets. I know he's still very young but right now he'd be my first choice CB.

Don't get me wrong - Dier has been fantastic this season, and has the look of a future Spurs captain - but I could see Moreno and Kaboul this year, with Dier and Fazio as the 2nd choice CBs - with Vertonghen sold.

I rate Vertonghen over Fazio, but its pretty clear that something is off with him and Poch/Spurs this year, and his days are numbered. If we can get decent value, and bring in a starting-caliber CB, I would not lose any sleep over selling him in January.

I wonder if Dier staying back had something to do with Poch informing him that he needs him to step up. Maybe not immediately given the Naughton suspension, but in the coming weeks. More training time at CB while players like Vertonghen/Fazio are away on international duty, etc. Also, maybe Pochettino wants to know where Dier stands as a CB for an option as an internal upgrade as opposed to going for a guy like Moreno in January.

I don't see it as an either/or - next year could see a CB pairing of Dier/Moreno.

I would say Chiriches and probably Vertonghen are gone by the start of next year - so bringing in at least 1 new CB would be on the agenda.

Reading Southgate's comments I thought Dier would be staying at Spurs and working on improving at Right Back. Something about footwork and positioning. Apologise if I've misunderstood.

And Kaboul out of contract, or does he have another year?

For some reason, I think he has 1 more year on the contract than everyone thinks - seems like that has come up in discussion before, but I might be mis-remembering.

Very true. Moreno in January could also mean less of a transitional period at the start of next season. It would allow him to acclimatize to the EPL this season and quite honestly it's hard to imagine him being any worse than Kaboul/Chiriches so an upgrade would be welcomed, even if it might bloat the CB group.

But he has since told Under-21 manager Southgate that he wants to train with Spurs rather than appear in upcoming friendlies with Portugal and France.

"Eric has my blessing. I am totally comfortable with this," said Southgate.

Dier "feels there are parts of his game that he wants to work at", Southgate added, with the player keen to develop his abilities in a more central role.

"Long term we both agree that he is unlikely to be a full-back and is going to be a centre-half," he said.

@LexingtonSpurs

"Let's be clear about this. He feels there's benefit to working on that with time on the training during this period.

"Here, we're preparing for a game. In development terms, back at his club, the footwork training, the mobility training, you can do a lot more of that if you're not working towards a game.

"So we agreed, that with him having played the last two for us, we didn't need to see him, he would go through that work.

I like Dier and think he will be a really goof CB. Personally I would have liked to see him and Verts as the CB pairing. A young defender in particular needs time to learn and playing with regular partners would help. The problem is that we have had this RB problem and he has been forced to play there in a pathetic, ever changing defence. Someone made the point that we have a lot of young players and I hope Poch is the one who can take hold of them, believe in them and build a team/squad for the next few years

Correct me if I'm wrong but have we lost a game with verts and fazio as a two ? Now I'm not saying they are shoe-ins but we don't concede many when these two play together and I can't think of a game we have lost when they have started together ? This has to be our cb partnership against Hull

We've won 2 and drawn 1 with those two as our starting centre backs in the Europa League. Key words there being Europa, and League

I'd play Dier at CB as soon as Walker is fit. He's got a good head on his shoulders and leadership potential. Quiet frankly we need to clear the decks and start from scratch.
