Well maybe if it was a player in isolation. Players that won’t play a large number of games this season that has one year left on the contract includes Dier, Hugo and Sanchez.

If any of Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Reguilion are not permanently sold this season we will be in the same position with them in a years time.
That's just a problem with having players you don't want. Not sure what your solution is. Don't let them leave on loan if there are no buyers for them? Sometimes you just need to recognise bad investments and mitigate further loss by securing loans if no other options exist.

This is exactly it. We have a player who will leave for free next summer, who doesn't fit into the managers plans and although unlikely, no doubt probably harbours some hope of playing himself into the England squad for the Euro's and needs to be playing regularly in order to have any chance at all.

It makes absolutely no sense at all just keeping him in that situation and helps no one so a loan is best for all parties if a perm cannot be done. The only situation I'd see him staying is if we make a proper balls up of the CB situation and let Sanchez go, find we can't get a replacement in and then feel we can't let Dier go but that would be disgraceful mismanagement by the club and would be throwing Ange under the bus so confident that won't happen.

His motivation to stay has to be out of comfort of surroundings or the financial opportunity free agency offers next summer.
Surely he isnt delluded enough to think, with his pace, he would be anything other than a disaster in this system?

Doubt he makes the squad list and so if he wants to sit on his arse until June that’s his prerogative.

As others have said, I see a late move for him as I don’t think he’s the sort of person to just pick up the salary whilst doing nothing.

He would be foolish to stay for a season and collect his wage. 8 months ago he was just finishing up duty at the World Cup with England.

There’s a player in there if he joins the right club. Given Southgate’s tendency to stick with players he knows well, a decent move and a run of form could easily see him make the England squad next summer. As unlikely as it would be, I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

Fulham or Palace would be good moves for him IMO.

Tuchel: but YOU'RE SURE he can play in a high line, Herry?

Harry: oh yeah, he can play RB, CB, DM all different systems - incredible player

I personally think, maybe unfairly, that he realises he can't keep up with top flight football anymore. He's been steadily losing his mobility and sharpness year on year since his appendicitis. I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks he's best collecting the maximum wage he can while he's got the contract, then as a free agent drop down a league or move abroad where it's easier going.

Just my onions.

I actually hope that a strange move to Bayern materialises for him.

That would be a huge opportunity at a big club considering he isn't really in Anges plans.

And although I really like Dier and respect him as a pro and person - it's obvious that a section of our fanbase won't get behind him at all if he stays.

You know this is where DL tries to get the extra £15m he wanted for Harry 😂
