Hopefully we will see Woodgate make his debut for the club tonight, unfortunately this fixture come to early for our latest addition Alan Hutton :-( With our recent record at Goodison we have a reason to be optimistic ahead of the match.
The Official Site Team News:
Jonathan Woodgate goes straight into the squad for Wednesday night's trip to Everton in the Barclays Premier League.
It could be perfect timing as fellow central defender Michael Dawson misses out as he serves a one-match suspension following his red card for handball at Manchester United on Sunday.
Paul Stalteri is an injury doubt with a thigh problem and Darren Bent is still not quite ready for match action even though he’s back in training following a knee injury.
Didier Zokora is at the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast while long-term injuries Gareth Bale (foot), Anthony Gardner (ankle) and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee) remain out.
Skysports.com Preview:
Jonathan Woodgate is on course to make his Tottenham debut in the Premier League clash at Everton.
The central defender, signed in a £7million deal from Middlesbrough, goes straight into Juande Ramos' squad and could step straight into the starting line-up with Michael Dawson ruled out through suspension.
Ramos will be hoping that the arrival of the England international can further bolster the club's defence, which is already showing signs of benefiting from the return of Ledley King after a long-term injury lay-off.
Despite their poor form on the road this season, with just one win in 12 attempts, Spurs should travel to Goodison Park in good heart.
Goodison record
Everton have claimed home victories over Tottenham in just two of their 15 Premier League meetings, with the North London side securing more points (27) at Goodison Park than on any other Premier League ground.
And the last four top-flight meetings between the two teams have all ended with victories for the away side.
Striker Darren Bent is still not ready to take his place in the squad despite returning to training after a knee injury and Paul Stalteri (thigh) is a doubt.
Gareth Bale (foot), Anthony Gardner (ankle) and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee) are long-term absentees and Didier Zokora is on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Ivory Coast.
Race for fourth
Victory for Everton would enable David Moyes' side to consolidate their grip on fourth place in the race for the final UEFA Champions League berth.
But Moyes will have to cope without the services of the influential Tim Cahill, with the Australia international serving a one-match suspension.
Full-back Tony Hibbert joins Cahill in the stands after receiving five bookings for the season, while Thomas Gravesen (knee) is out and Leon Osman (calf and groin) is doubtful.
Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Joseph Yobo and Steven Pienaar are in Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations with their respective countries.
BBC Match Squads (take with a pinch of salt):
Tottenham Squad (from): Cerny, Tainio, Woodgate, Huddlestone, Lee, Lennon, O'Hara, Jenas, Malbranque, Keane, Berbatov, Robinson, Kaboul, Gunter, Defoe, Boateng, Chimbonda.
Everton Squad (from): Howard, Stubbs, Lescott, Jagielka, Valente, Arteta, Neville, Carsley, Fernandes, Osman, Johnson, Vaughan, Anichebe, Wessels.
Interesting Stats:
Everton are defending a 100% league record in 2008, and chasing a fourth successive Premier League victory for the first time since January 2006, to consolidate their recently acquired top four status.
We are yet to return from the north-west with three points this season.
We have conceded as many league goals as Everton have scored (40). They have also netted four more goals than the Toffees, yet find themselves seven places and 15 points in arrears of the Merseysiders.
A home victory would give Everton twice as many league wins as the north Londoners (14 to seven).
Everton are the Premier League's most lethal club in stoppage time, when we are at their most vulnerable.
We are bidding to beat Everton for a fourth consecutive time at Goodison Park.
