He's 31 with zero experience apart from 6 games after Jose went,we had a bit of fun when Bale finally got some minutes but remember us being absolutely schooled by Bielsa's Leeds after he tried to go toe to toe with them,any comparison with Arteta is ridiculous,Arteta was Pep's number 2 for a good couple of seasons,Mason probably puts the cones out . Is there an argument that even a free agent manager may prefer to come in at the start of pre-season with a clean slate, rather on the tail end on an existing season?

IIRC Conte was apprehensive about taking the role mid-season.

I don't see an issue in fact the manager has ten games to assess players currently here and then preseason or scout by watching players like Gill & Spence out on loan.
