Thanks for telling me what lets me down.

My dislike of the guy has nothing to do with how I rate him as a player. I dislike Drogba immensely but would have him in a heartbeat. Alas, Beckham's reputation is based one the fact that he used to be great and a whole heap of spin. He's not got the legs for it anymore, he's been playing football no better than league 1 level for the past 4 years (barring a bit of Milan time, the first spell of which was a success but the second of which he looked absolutely awful) and he would not fit into the way we play, which is fast, quick thinking, decisive football (barring the strikers of course). And as for you harping on about him being a victim of politics at Madrid, you're wrong plain and simple.

I shall agree to disagree with you (always easy to do when I know I'm right) :-D

think you're badly underestimating the bottom premier league teams just as the likes of current world class players like Modric, VDV and Bale probably did

a brute like charlie adams would go through beckham like a freight train before he even has time to pick out a pass, his feet arent quick enough to shuffle out the way anymore

Watched the legends match a the lane a few years back. Waddle was playing. Really fat. couldn't run.

A defender came up to him and waddle literally put the defender on his arse with the dip of his shoulder and went round him.

You never lose class.

We'll agree to differ apart from your naivety with regards the politics at Madrid, the most corrupt club in the world ever.

Beckham wouldn't get caught with his back to him. With his experience he knows exactly where he is in relation to other players around him.
Not saying he would never get nailed but no more than Luka would.

By the way if I had my way Charlie Adam would be in the same team!

I'd love to see him spend a year with us as his discipline and training ground ethics would do wonders for our younger players who, whether we like him or not, would all look up to him as being the epitomy of a player who has "been there, done that"
Plus, from a marketing point of view, now that we're not in next season's Champions League, he would raise our image, internationally, more than any other player on this planet

Couldn't hack it in Major League Shit in the USA, didn't come good until his final 6 months at Madrid, and I just plain dislike the guys completely egocentric attitude to everything he does.

Er. No.

Errr, he hacked it pretty well in the MLS especially given the initial hounding he was given by the fans/players when he chose to play in Milan as well - another example of his strength of character.

He was also very good at Madrid throughout and again overcame adversity when he was a victim of the bizarre politics of that club by proving himself to Capello once he'd been dropped.

Footballers egocentric? Well i never... (and to be fair, there are many more larger egos playing football than him - he's clearly got a massive amount of love and respect for the game).

True that.

Beckham was very good at Madrid from the get go. At the beginning of the 2004-05 season Madrid were playing some terrific stuff of which he was a integral part.

Ironic someone with the username of Ginola labelling a player egocentric when Beckham was far more of a team player than Ginola ever was.

Ooh Alanis. I sense a sequel.

Oh and I never disagreed that Madrid is ridden with politics and always has been, I just don't believe it contributed to the fact that Beckham was so poor for the majority of his time there.

Dont agree that he was poor there, The only time possibly was when they decided to try and play him in the Makelele role in order to fit him, Figo, Zidane and Guti into the same midfield, hardly his fault that they stuck him in a position he is unsuited for but he still gave 100% and carried out the role to the best of his ability. Even at that time I wouldnt say he looked poor.

And the crap starts again. The bloke will be able to hit 50 yard balls until he is 60 as his technique is different class, but the premiership is about pace and especially out wide. He spends most of the time at right back last night playing against a Juventus team not taking it seriously that finished 7th in the worst seria a league since i can ever remember.

All this we need experience crap, well we finished fourth without it and the training argument about what a role model he would be..... who too?

Players like Lennon couldn't give a shit and the majority of our squad are better players then him anyway.

The day he retires the day football can get back to feckin normal!

The English and Spurs supporters on here who think that Beckham is the answer are the same ones with lopsided ambitions coupled with unrealistic expectations ie "we are going to win the World cup / league!".

i have to say, he was epic at the testimonial. would be good as a financial investment and a backup/option player.
