Sir Bill on COYS

Listen, I have heard on the grapevine that Madrid will pay a record fee for Bale BUT they will inform the press that the figure will be less than Ronaldo's so that he doesn't get his knickers in a twist.

Seems as though that is the case from the latest reports.

Sod him we should let the press know exactly what they pay if or when he goes

Time Levy pulled the plug on this, Madrid just playing silly buggers

He'll be worth more next summer and he'll have helped us to silverware and top 3 finish this season

*sigh*

Ask yourself, was Cristiano Ronaldo worth the price Real Madrid paid?
If yes, then Bale is not worth a similar (or higher) sum, simple as that. Gareth Bale is a long way away from the player Ronaldo was when he left England.
If no, then the figure being touted is ridiculous anyway.

People need to wake up and smell reality. We will never get that fee for him, and he is worth nowhere near that much. No player is, with the possible exception of Messi.

Its got nothing to do with the players worth, its what he is worth to SPURS, CL money, marketing, etc etc etc over the next 3 years. RM are compensating us by buying out his contract and what DL thinks he is going to loose.

Cant see them erecting the stand without something being agreed even just verbally.. in my mind he's gone... glad to say the transfer dealing and results without him have made me almost forget him..

Gareth who? :)

Good luck to him in Madrid, he'll need it with the worlds media attention on him

That stand is to show off all the new signings. It's not solely for Bale.

All this talk of publishing lower fees so Ronaldo doesn't get jealous doesn't wash with me. When they publish the accounts, it'll all come out.

Here is part of what I posted yesterday on the Daily ITK Discussion thread (1524, @ 6.20 p.m., 23.08).

The question is why did Chelsea suddenly decide to spend £30m on Willian when they could have done it a week earlier when Anzhi first made the announcement? The fact is that either Mourinho suddenly decided he needed a sixth very similar type player, or Chelsea had another thought.

It’s entirely possible that Willian not joining Spurs will result in Bale not joining Madrid. It’s pure Mourinho for that to be part of his plan (he’s more worried about RM in CL, than Spurs in PL, I’m afraid). This little powerplay potentially screws everybody’s plans up (including Man U or Arsenal buying RM players).

It is not relevant whether Willian is seen a direct replacement for Bale. He’s not. But Willian (30), Lamela (30) and a couple of others were / are the intended reinvestment of the money.
Like I posted yesterday, a pure masterstroke from Mourinho. You have to admire his nerve! COYS

Yeah... smacks of bullshit imo... Not ITK bashing, just cant see how they could lie like that.

Oh I agree, I think Bale is a class person and will give his all whilst he is here. Still, I just hope that playing hard-ball doesn't end up with us losing out on 10 million plus. Ultimately, I don't really think any player is worth more than 60 million pounds - the fees being paid nowadays are utterly ludicrous.

You keep making reference to a players worth.........that is utter sh**e. Its what the asset is worth to the club over the period of the contract. It has been explained no amount of times on here, but you keep missing the point. I have to question how you arrive at your opinion that no players is worth more than 60 million.

Levy, take a f***ing stand against RM after their bullshit.
Keep Bale for a season and if he still wants to go for more money and chances of trophies sell him to the highest non-RM-, non-PL-bidding team next summer - and if Bale wants to go to RM and they still wants him his next club can deal with those bastards eventually.
And never ever sell or buy from them again - we'll survive without RM-dreaming-stepping-stone-players or getting RM-failures going forward.

thank fuck somebody said it.

There is no formula to determine a transfer value. If it takes 90m to prize him from our grasps that is how much it costs.

Our need/desire to sell against their desperation to buy. Both in our favour.

We dont want or need to sell so make us a ridiculous offer if you want him.

I agree.

As a club, having Bale in shirt, sponsor and crest in times square NYC for a month, Bale in shirt, sponsor and crest on FIFA14 in the middle east, bale in shirt, sponsor and crest all over BT Sport's ad campaign and Spurs being the centre of NBC's TV campaign is absolutely massive, that's exposure that cannot be quantified by a player's football skills on the pitch. Bale as a PL player is worth more to Spurs, IMO than Bale as a la liga player to Madrid, even with the Adidas angle.

Personally I think that's why we should be going all out for Lamela. Not just for his footballing skills, but he is a marketable player, where the likes of Capoue, Paulinho and Soldado aren't.

Are RM that naïve, do they honestly think that their supporters cant read or understand English broadcasts, they say £70 million and English speaking papers quote the real price. DL will make RM pay for what they have done. Perez is in the shit.

Even then, I still wouldn't place him as high as the media suggests (i.e. around 100 million pounds/euros). I heard that there were a whole bunch of clauses in a lot of Bale's marketing deals that would greatly benefit us on the unfortunate occasion he left. Not sure on the validity but it is something to note.

You getting like the media and ssn, 'I heard' what is there to note? A rumour?

You do realise that Levy has a reputation as being a bastard to deal with and driving a hard deal and thats just for players that we want to sign or let go.

I'm more than confident that in Levy, we have the best chairman available to sell Bale on our terms or not at all.

Hmmm... guess I should have put a winky face after my post. I was joking, of course, about Levy knocking 10 million off just for kicks.
