Keeping in mind that every single football rumour substantiated or otherwise will propagate every corner of the Internet at the speed of light and is jumped on by every media organisation and passed off as their ITK or exclusive, do we really believe we made a £50 million bid for someone and not one piece of information about it was outed from our side or by their club? Sorry GF but if the media didnt link us at any point during the tw then it didnt happen imo.

That's not to say I don't think we are prepared to spend that on a single player if we get the chance.

I don't see how it could be Reus, I don't know why he would choose to come to us. He is easily worth 50 mil, but with the exception of him maybe wanting to play in the PL I don't know why he would want to come to us. Would be a phenomenal signing but just can't see it ever happening.

but the player didn't choose to come to us, so why couldn't it have been reus?

People are missing the obvious here....it is quite clearly one G Bale wen he realises he made a massive mistake and Levy pulls a Robbie Keanesque type deal on them!!!!

Seriously though, would Falcao not be an option due to his past with AVB, and then there was that stuff about him having to be sold again because of the tax issues or something?

Who knows - it was initially mooted that he was only staying in Monte Carlo for a year before a mega money move back to Madrid, only for Real.

Maybe Suarez is the key to this and whether Madrid go in for him again.

GF is implying that he may choose to come in the future and one would assume we wouldn't have gone after him if we new he had know interest. Ether way he would never come to us, so if it actually was him we may as well have tried to get Messi.

People still didn't understand who the player is??

It's SUAREZ

We are looking for a player who can play as a no.9 plus any other side of the forward three ; either left wing or right wing or in the hole or even as a striker............. Goat had an ITK regarding suarez... Liverpool wanted 50m for him............. And to be honest , if madrid/arsenal doesn't sniff and we are in a good position in the league table in january it might happen.........

So it must be a player who...

(i) Will cost £50m to pry away from his club...

(ii) ... potentially meaning there is 2+ years left on the players contract (perhaps longer)

(iii) Won't already be on very high wages (under £100k a/w)

(iv) Hasn't already been mentioned in the press

(v) Is at least fairly interested in moving to Spurs

(vi) Isn't Draxler

Any other rules that we can apply to this? I reckon between us we can name the player.

Arsenal bid around £45m for him and Liverpool didn't sell; I doubt they would have accepted £50m from us, one of their rivals for Champions League football.

Also, isn't Suarez on over £130k a week? I'm not too sure we'd pay that to a player.

I don't necessarily think the likes of Muller, Lars Bender or Kroos is completely out of the question. They're all still fairly young players, so probably not on massive wages. If their clubs are happy to accept a bid, you might find we'd actually be doubling their wages if they were to join us. If we looked as though we were heading for the Champions League, then who knows? Perhaps they'd take a punt?

Only one I'd be semi happy to pay that much for is Muller. He is an exceptional player. Bayern would never let him go

When reading the thread Suarez was one of the first names that popped into my head for that price tag. But I don' really understand him wanting to wait until January when you consider the quality of the players we've brought in.
Edit; just clicked with me, he's waiting for Real to offer a deal

I can just imagine what the likes of Baddiel would be saying if we were chanting 'Yid' at a racist!

I understand this was a deadline day deal but considering it was in the pipeline 2 weeks previously, would this signing of had any affect of the signings of Lamela and Eriksen?

I think we'd pay that for the right player, if rumours are to be believed we were looking to offer Bale that kinda money maybe even a bit more.

Perhaps it is £50million including the wage deal, I.e. £25million fee and a 4 yr contract worth £6.25million a year (£120k/pw).

If not the above, the only player worth £50m who is even the slightest bit realistic is Suarez.
