Definitely could see some logic in this if we think he really can play DM effectively. I am a little worried we’ll be overly reliant on PEH so another DM would make a lot of sense.

Would think someone has to move along to make it happen, but whether that’s Sissoko, Ndombele or someone else who knows.

Maybe we decided we’re ok at CB and that 15M that we were thinking about using on Monster is better used here?

Would be a very shrewd signing, young with bags of potential, entering the last year of his contract, playing for a recently relegated team, should be able to sign him for below £20m.

Would partner well with Hojbjerg in a double pivot, could play as a number 6 if necessary against lower opposition, can deputise for Ndombele. Adds plenty of balance to the squad as Trix mentioned, and means we wouldn't have to use Sissoko as a defensive midfielder which, despite all his hard work there, isn't really his natural position.

I think shipping Sissoko out and bringing Sangare in would make lots of sense. Sissoko has been an excellent servant to the club but it’s time to move him on. I’m sure there would be suitors among mid-table clubs who would view him as a one-man guarantee of winning the physical battle in midfield and weapon on the counter.

Sangare is 9 years younger, better in terms of his defensive positioning and far more technically sound. Hope this has legs.
Selling Sissoko to get Sangare makes too much sense to happen.

This is one thing that worries me slightly.

We have 8 games in 15 days or whatever, no chance will Hoejbjerg play all of them.

The alternative of course is we go back to Sissoko and Winks but we are really back at square one.

Hope we can find a solution.
It might have been Skipp pushing for it in fairness, but this makes me perplexed as to why we've loaned him out. I'm convinced had Jose been a bit bolder about it then we could have easily shipped out Sissoko or even Winks (for a big fee) and just used Skipp as the second option to Hojbjerg. He'd have played loads in a Europa League season. All for Sangare though.

I was surprised by the quoted price because there have been multiple reports that he's into the final year of his contract. I looked into it and although Transfermarkt has his contract down as expiring in June 2021 (and multiple shit outlets like the Express have said the same, presumably after a cursory Google search), a number of reports linking him to Everton last summer make reference to the fact that he'd recently extended to 2022. I can't actually find the primary source announcement of that extension from Toulouse, but this fan site also has him down as 2022.

It appears that Transfermarkt is wrong and he's actually got two years left. Even still, €15m is £13.5m, still a bargain signing for a talented 22 year old.
Okay I've found it. On February 1 2019, the official Toulouse FC twitter account announced that Sangare had extended his contract. Here's a French media report from that day saying that the new contract expires in 2022.

He's got two years left on his contract, which is consistent with Toulouse holding out for €15-20m.

In an ideal world we need two players for each role within the team, Højbjerg is the only specific DM option. Sangare would make a whole lot of sense as a trade out for Sissoko who, despite being hardworking, is neither Defensive nor Attacking in nature. I had been hoping for a second DM to join, so if Højbjerg is unavailable we don’t have to change style to accommodate. However, this would be a ‘nice to have’ option, not so much a ‘need to have’ like RB or CF cover.

Never seen him play but our last set of transfers from the french league have been terrible. I would be very wary adding to it.

But I do believe we need another central midfielder in. Especially if we can sell Sissoko ?

Balance.

Much better team balance having this guy in the squad than Sissoko.

Blimey, Sabitzer, Sangare and Doherty in, Sissoko, Ndombele and Aurier out.. Much better options (although I do believe Ndombele will come good elsewhere, if not here).

Steady mate! I highly doubt we'd bring all them 3 in

Can't see us signing him given that's we've bought Hojbjerg and have other quite pressing priorities, but he's a player for sure.

Personally I’d be all for another central midfielder.

Dier is now a centre back, which leaves us with Winks, Lo Celso, Ndombele and Højbjerg, which of we play a midfield three leaves us still a little tight in that area with Skipp on loan.

And no I don’t count Sissoko as we really should be cashing in on him and upgrading to someone better.

Another thing to note, although I think Hojbjerg will be great and crucial as a dm in our side, a good chunk of his defensive work for Southampton came while pressing. His best quality for saints was winning the ball high up the pitch. Sangare is a more defensive midfielder, and I could see the two play together. Regardless, good young player with room to grow, he is def a José type with his imposing physical presence. Worst case, he prevents us from having to use Sissoko or winks when Hojbjerg rests.

Fair point but we do have Gedson, and I think Dele could play there if required.

I think we need another defensive minded option. Not necessarily a primary DM but someone who has the capacity to fill in.

A lot of games to be played and Hoejbjerg can't play them all

He’s the player we’re hoping Skipp can be for us following his loan [aside from Sangaré being a giant unlike Skipp].

I really don’t think we need him if we keep Ndombele & Winks. I think it would be better business to get a versatile player like Sabitzer who would start for us as an attacker but can play in midfield if necessary. Winks has proven this season that he is capable of anchoring the midfield.

midfield 3:
Ndombele---PEH---Lo Celso
---Dele------Winks--Gedson
--White-----[Skipp]--(Sabitzer)
[] = loan
() = versatile option

double pivot:
Ndombele---Hojbjerg
Lo Celso----Winks
Gedson-----[Skipp]
White

Absolutely. Skipp has left the squad so needs to be replaced.

He was still very much part of our first team squad last season.
