Didn't he also have hepatitis at the 1966 world cup (not to mention he also battled alcoholism)?

Jaundice was a common name for a form of hepatitis. He had in I think in 65, and he had not regained 100% fitness by the time of the WC.

Hmm... they've spoken out in response to this

The cost of Jimmy's treatment would be a peanut cost to @SpursOfficial would be unforgivable if they stood back and did nothing !!!

The Club set up the @TributeTrust specifically to assist at times such as this & that is exactly what is happening.

Jimmy's agent over the weekend had been very scathing about the lack of financial help from the club on social media and in the press. But it appears they have been assisting through the TT.

Having spoken to the tottenham trust, it is clear that they are going to help Jimmy and that Spurs help them financially. I would like to clear up previous misconceptions in that regard. The Trust have been very helpful , we received a form from them six days ago whilst we were on holiday and it's being filled out today . They have been very good.

Little bit more news about Jimbo's road to recovery on Norman Gillers blog today.

Norman recently spent some time with Jimmy., and although confined to a wheelchair he sounds like he is fighting back and learning to speak again. Jimmy remains to this day my favorite footballer ever.

I wish I could have seen him play live, my Grandad always raves about him. Glad he's doing better.

Saw Jimmy play lots.

Cannot compare with today's players where there is just one up top and they have to run all over the place closing down etc etc.

Jimmy was a goal thief rather than a goal sniffer.

He needed Bobby Smith and Alan Gilzean up top with him.

Geoff Hurst turned out a good choice for the WC scoring a hat trick in the final.

We will never know whether England would have won with Jimmy in the team but the odds would slightly be in his favour.

Whilst Jimmy Greaves was a good goal scorer he was not in the same league influentially as Dave Mackay and Danny Blanchflower. Add John White as slightly behind those two.

IMO Cliff Jones was a more valuable forward player than Jimmy. We didn't win the league with Greavesy.

Jimmy was a good goal scorer but not in the same league as Messi and Ronaldo today.

He needed the big man up front with him.

Never saw him play but he was the one player my dad would always bang on about in the 90s when he first started taking me to games.
