Gary Speed and his assistant Raymond Verheijen didn't take very long in turning a very mediocre Welsh team into a up and coming force in International football.

That improvement will obviously swiftly disappear now that they have a clown in charge.

If there is any truth in this Rodgers would be mad to consider it, way too young to consider such a role with such a promising career in front of him. FFS he's only 39!

Any reasons for the conviction here that Rodgers wouldn't take the England job .

Pay rise much ya think ?

I s'pose the obvious point is that in the very short time he'll have with the players he won't be able to get his ideas across .

But from Swansea to England , you sure he'd turn his nose up... 6 mill/year no use

My reasoning that he wouldn't take it is a few things. He is from a very Nationalist village over here, I dont know Brendan personally so I dont really know if that would bother him taking the England job but he could be in for some of the same treatment that Neil Lennon got if he did.

Also he seems very intelligent and would know within himself that he is very very young as a manager and has a whole carrier in front of him. Look at McLaren, Sven, Keegan even Cappello all lost some credibility, rightly or wrongly after their tenure. Brendan is doing well in a relitively low pressure situation with full backing from fans, owners and the media..... IMO he knows what sides his bread is buttered and he would decline it.

The England teams problem and has been for the last decade isn't individual talant or lack of understanding of how to play in a system its egos and mentality. Brendan IMO doesn't have the experience or credentials to demand the respect of a certain number of players. I wouldsay Lampard, Gerrard, Terry and Rio will all play a part in the Euros, thier last chance. If a manager didnt take these players and failed to perform the media would crucify the manager.

Again I could be well wrong lol.

I really do not think there is anything to it Mr P. Well, quite possibly Trevor Brooking wants him, of course he would. But I doubt very much if Brendan Rodgers would even consider it.

If I remember correctly, he didn't even apply for the NI job, because he wanted to continue his day to day football project. So if he didn't want to stop this project for the NI job, why on earth would he want to stop it for the England job?

I think this is a non starter personally

Rodgers is from Carnlough, doubt he would go anywhere near the England job, seems too intelligent to even consider it

Carnlough is indeed very nationalist, over 85% catholic

The two worst job Rodgers could take at the moment,
are England and Chelsea. He'll need time and absolute free hands to
make those teams his own. Time are not given in those two jobs,
and his career might be dead before it's even started.

I laugh at the suggestion that England would suddenly play like Swansea (Barcelona) if Rodgers is appointed due to the higher quality of players in the England squad.
Some old fool mentioned this on Sunday Supplement as well.
When Rodgers look for a new player he look for players with the right attitude and playing style to fit his team. A key part for him is that it's a hungry player that is willing to listen and learn. Does this sound like Terry, Lampard, Gerrard etc.? Even Rooney? When Rodgers needed a goal keeper, he didn't care about the size thought to be needed in the Premier League - in stead he went for a shorty that are good with the ball at his feet, so that his team would be able to play possesion play even from the back. Wouldn't surprise me if the next step in his team building will involve using midfielder in defence, like we've seen at Barcelona already. Huddlestone to take Terry's place?

There will be a lot of question asked about Rodgers decisions if he's made the next England boss, the pressure will be immense when the results aren't instant.
Will he hold onto his philosophy or must he adjust to the demands of veteran players and the press? Doomed to fail.

Loosely speaking yeah. He used to be. I think he's some sort of journo or coffee boy at a newspaper or something, because normally his 'info' appears in one of the rags, might be the Daily Mail shortly after he's posted it.

Wasn't it the Irish Sun he worked for? For some reason that sticks in my mind.

JTG used to post everything in cryptic riddles a few years back from what i remember (mainly as he was the reason I'm not allowed on COYS until 2085 or something), then he went away, i thought he was found to be full of it ages ago, maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway, to stop going into iffy territory, why would Brooking be against Harry? Surely they worked closely at West Ham, did they not get on?

Exactly.

This is why some fools think that appointing Wenger will have the same effect.

A team only adopts a certain a style of play by either having players who have all been coached in a particular way since youth. Or if a manager instills his philosophy by coaching a team what he wants them to do in a match during every single session.

I believe that the reason the Spanish and Brazillian players play the style they do is because they have been coached the way since youth. At international level it is almost impossible to instill a holistic philosopy as you spend so little time with the players and the squad is constantly changind due to 'injuries'. Therefore the team adopts a style which is almost a default to how they have been developed since youth. This is why England play such sh*t cave man football.

If Capello was in charge of Spain they wouldn't start playing boring football that he apparently had england playing. Similar to if Wenger or Rodgers took over England they wouldn't start playing intelligent, possession based football.

It is all about the players at international level and very little about the manager.

Everything I've ever seen this guy say has been complete nonsense.

Yep. Never really got the regard for this guy. He's pretty arrogant with seemingly little reason to be. Can't remember him ever getting anything right. Feels strange to be saying that out loud actually. Always had to keep mum about these things on coys (still managed to get chopped in the end though, lol)
