Seen him a couple of times since linked. One negative that stuck out was his tendancy to rush forward out of defence to try and win balls he had little, to no chance of winning.

Thus resulting in a player having plenty of space to run in behind him.

Of course, still considered young for a CB, but whilst looks good going forward with the ball, I reckon he'll certainly need some coaching as to when to 'stick or twist'.

Maybe it was just the couple of games I watched, but it was weird. You'd see him constantly looking at what attackers were doing him around him, a great trait, switched on. Then he'd rush out with no chance of winning the ball, and leave gaping hole in behind him.

Like I say, this was only a couple of games, but something that jumped out at me.
I noticed this from his highlight videos too - a certain rashness both with and without the ball. A lot of the other key aspects of his game look really solid, though: he's quick, strong and a good passer and those are things that can't be taught, so you'd hope that with some better coaching he could iron out his weaknesses fairly quickly.

I'd also say his weaknesses don't look as glaring or as hard to coach-out as those of Foyth, who consistently gives the ball away high up the pitch and looks like giving away a penalty every single time he's shoulder to shoulder with an attacker in the box.

He's a big, physical CB, capable of dealing with similar types of strikers. Presumably then, he's back up for Sanchez who can also perform that role.

If that's the case, then this is Mourinho playing the percentages. He knows that Sanchez will not necessarily be able to play every game, so we need options for the games that he doesn't play in. We don't want to get sucker-punched by mid-table teams who have a Deaney or Rondon in the side, when Sanchez is out.

I think KMJ (and really any other CB interest) means José is serious about matchday lineups of 3 at the back with wingbacks. Dier and Tanganga could both be excellent at the RCB position (not to mention Toby who at one point was the perfect RCB) with a wing back in front - and honestly I’m comfortable with Davies at LCB as well. Interesting to say the least along with Doherty.

PS found a YouTube video of his full game vs Arnautovic in the Chinese league on twitter. Think he’ll give us some heart attacks but the appeal is there without a doubt .

This guy can pass like Toby, he is a monster in the air and for his size surprisingly good speed, i reckon he could do a bang on good job as a DEF mid too, he turn Def to attack very very well

I was initially impressed with his attributes and potentially what he can give as mentioned in the quote above, .... However i have seen the highlights of his last 4/5 games and wow he has been poor, positionally erratic and in no mans land for some plays, looked out of his depth, lack of communication between his defence (might not be all him of course), unaware of opposition players around him in the box and looked a long way off a player from his good youtube highlight reels.

Maybe his head isnt there and has been turned as he has been stopped by his club / manager from a press interview duty he had planned to do because of the speculation of his transfer and therefore not a good time for the player to be distracted more and that was pretty much the comment from his manager Bruno Génésio.

You can just search the highlights of their initial 7 games hes played in all but one so far search for Bejing Guoan: https://www.youtube.com/c/WKLChineseFootball/videos

To my surprise, he is very good passer of the ball ...

I still think this seems quite a risk. Goes against our current transfer M.O. too.

So left field though that we must be confident in his abilities.

I think we are operating more in "financial parameters" than specific characteristics. PEH, Doherty are both circa 15m transfers. Kim Min-Jae is apparently right around that same number. With Covid, and with the understanding that shit can go sideways any day/week/month, you limit that financial burden by functioning within those parameters. Additionally, in a one-in/one-out scenario, it's quite simple to put yourself right back at a darn-near zero net spend quickly. Sell KWP, bring in PEH (3m net spend), sell Aurier, bring in Doherty, potentially sell Gazza, bring in Hart on a free/promote a youth GK as 3rd choice; bringing net spend potentially down to near zero. We've done the work to get the HG numbers right again, but beyond that it's a balancing act and from the looks of it, Levy trying to keep our spend down, while addressing areas of the squad that need major addressing.

Tbh, and it may just be that Foyth and CCV are angling for a move, we might be better off just keeping them until the January window than trying to blood in KMJ this fall.

Do people still believe this a thing?

Hang on.... Are you saying that shirt sales don't make us loads of money? Because I've been buying myself a new work shirt from M&S every week for the last twenty years ?

It's also said he'd go for at most 3m now, next summer with a new contract and after Europa League game time he'll probably be 10m+

If he’s someone the club identified specifically as a big talent that we should be buying that’s great and I would have loved to have him. But he’s far from necessary. I feel quite comfortable with Tanganga, Foyth, and CCV competing for the fourth CB spot. Plus Davies is able to slide over and play centrally, if necessary.

Exactly, if we were splashing the cash I’d be like sure but if we have such limited funds then one of Tanganga CCV or Foyth and Davies occasionally are fine for 4th CB options
