Here's an interesting fact that means all is not lost this season.
Last season, after 26 games, we were 11th. Same as now. Except we've only played 23 games.

I think once we catch the group above (starting with west ham) then we will really start rising. The next few weeks are really vital, if we can pick up points and make ground on those above and get back in that pack uefa could be on, but there is also the possibility that we wont catch them in the next few weeks and the gap will widen in which case at least we have wembley to look forward to.

It's so tight between 5th &10th this season though, we really need the likes of Everton to start messing up. I still have high hopes for us though!

I don't think so. I think we should forget about what the teams above us are doing and look at what we could do.
Last season, after 26 games, 10th February, we had 33 points. At the end of the season, 38 games, we had 60 points. We picked up 27 points in 12 games and finished fifth. We only lost one game in the last 12 and that was against Chelski.
We still have 15 games left this season, and if we believe our squad is better, and the manager is better?, then we can still do what we did last year in picking up points.

33 points can realistically be taken from our remaining fixtures putting us on 60 points - should be enough for 6th/7th spot = UEFA yay! (maybe, just maybe enough for 5th - double yay!:grin:

Last season's run-in equalled our best ever in the top flight, back in 1951. Not bad for a bunch of physical wrecks managed by a bumbling, tactically naive incompetent. If we can repeat that we should finish on 61 points.

That was then, this is now, we're miles behind & Villa, Man City, Pompey etc.. have all improved. We're fucked if we think we're getting in the top 8 let alone the top 5

Very realistic, have Spurs suddently become a team that can win away?

Why so pessimistic?? We have a much easier run-in than the teams you mention and are much improved in recent weeks - I think top 8 is very, very do-able.

I was going to say the same thing. I'd be happy with points at both Goodison and Eastlands

I believe even when we couldn't win away to save out lives last season - we beat Man City away (and a clean sheet?) and we've beaten Everton away the last 4 times of asking.

It is 15 points to 4th place, 14 to 5th and 13 to 6th and 7th. In theory it is possible to finish the season in top 6, but it is much more easier said than done. There are more quality teams now in the Prem than last year. And it's not just up to us.

I think finishing in the top 8 would be the best we could hope for and this in-itself will take some serious doing so we must win a cup to stay in Europe! If we can do that...who knows, Dimi might just stay Eek

We are 13 points off the 6th place team. We are just 7 points off the relegation places.

Some people seem to think that Spurs exist in a vaccuum and that if we accrue a certain amount of points, we automatically qualify for Europe, irrespective of other teams.

Look at the teams that have massively improved this season: Everton, Blackburn, West Ham, Portsmouth, Man City. I can see us finishing in the top 10, but no higher. It's naive to assume that other teams are just going to roll over and die to accomodate the fact that we're now playing better than a few months ago. A little bit of realism, please.

Because we couldn't beat Wigan away last year when we were on form.... and we've been shitter at home this season than last.

I just think generally we're not as good as we were last year and I think you're deluded if you think the only game we'll lose from now will be against United.

Both are MUCH better than last year
