When you look at the standard of signings they have made over the last decade, the vast waste of money, the concerns about the ownership and now more recently all the problems with some of their players which are potentially extremely serious. You have to think that Utd are probably the worst run 'big' club in Europe.
Really interesting to analyse.

I think they have made 3 major mistakes with their recruitment over the last decade or so.

1. Sign players with big names for big money even if they dont fit into the system or have a plan for them and disregard any issues player previously had.

Di Maria, Sanchez, Lukaku, Ronaldo etc

A big name that sells shirts. Their talent will simply just shine right?

2. Try to appease coaches with expensive signings and not have a club system. But at the same time still do point number 1.

Van Gaal wasnt too bad but Jose was pretty adament on certain players. He didnt get them all as the club went over his head at times but Sanchez and Lukaku are too fine examples.

It is now continuing with Ten Hag.

Absolutely adament Antony was the perfect player and value at 80m. Martinez is decent but again Ten Hag desperately wanted him so they overpaid. Now he has done the same with Mount.

Was determined to spend huge money on De Jong too.

All way over valued players and no flexibility.

Which has now put them in a tough spot as they dont have the headroom for players they desperately need.

3. Blowing other teams out of the race so they can sign young players who have 1 good season behind them.

Sancho is an example of where they wanted to get ahead of other clubs and happily paid what it took to get him. Maguire too.

Other clubs were interested but as soon as United got involved others were wise to back off and let them get ripped off.

And that is continuing to bite them in the arse.

Clubs see them coming and know they will overpay so quote stupid fees - thanks to Woodward.

They need to take a step back and commit to not overpaying and then developing a smarter scouting structure.

But if they just let coaches choose primary targets then they will continue to get ripped off.

Are you saying Anthony’s not worth 80 million?

Tbh 60 mil on the danish kid is a huge gamble it could go either way

Any one else got concerns over the manager

Not forgetting greenwood and Anthony off fiel issues, they make us look like world beaters
Hojlund - €75m
Mount - €65m
Anthony - €95m
Sancho - €85m
Van de Beek - €40m
Maguire - €90m

That's €450m that has not been well spent in the last 5 seasons.

I mean they've played a combined 176 minutes for Man United so far, at least give them a chance.

One arrived injured and has made one sub cameo appearance, the other joined in the same summer and has only played a few games. let's not judge these two based on their surroundings eh? Remember some players can look much better with a change of environment, play style and manager (see several players for us under Ange compared to Conte as an example).

United seem chaotic on and off the pitch, so I won't be judging those two on a few games.

Hojlund looked decent against Arsenal too. Actually looked to be exactly the kind of focal point they’ve been missing up front. It’s their midfield that’s the main issue for them.

I thought he looked good. Looked like he enjoyed a battle with defenders for sure. Him v Romero could be interesting when it happens in the reverse game.

Holjund is an interesting one, a lot of money, rumours his has a long term injury, but he did look good against Arsenal. Did they over pay, yes but he could still end up being value.

Fair point with Hojlund and I was almost going to post a * next to his name.

Mount has shown he's fairly useless for a good 12 months now, change of manager won't make any difference. He was over-hyped when he was playing well and clearly he's a very limited player.

VdB just made a terrible choice. He’s class but wrong club at the wrong time.
I’m surprised given he was under Ten Haag at Ajax and quite important for them, that he hasn’t been given more opportunities at Man U.

In no way am I saying Mount is going to be a roaring success. I just think it's harsh to deem him as a failure for United when he only joined in the summer and the team haven't exactly pulled up any trees as a whole. Granted his fee is overpriced, but can't judge him as a United player fairly whatsoever until at least the end of this season.

I think it just shows what a big step up it is from the Dutch league to ours. Some players just don't make it. Anthony's another one. Will be interesting to see how good Kudus really is.

Some really classy finishing in there. My personal favourite was 0:20, what a deft touch.
