If I remember right, it was @Nine while nine who mentioned the Clive Woodward experiment at Southampton earlier and this does feel very much like that.

Rangnick told the board what needed to be done and they totally ignored him, and I'd imagine that Ralf understands football much better than Dave flippin Brailsford!
I'm reserving judgement on Brailsford in football. One of his strengths in cycling was his ability to identify where an improvement might be made and then find the best person to implement it, rather than taking the task on himself. He's a delegator and given the space could resolve a lot of the backroom problems.

That is very dependent on the Utd heirarchy allowing him reign to do that however - which is far from a given.

Its one thing transferring leadership skills between different fields, but specialist knowledge… They would be better off bringing Rangnick back

Haha yeh me too, but my cycling head is saying there's a good chance he'll get at least some results there.

On a related note about Woodward at Southampton; wasn't there footage of him out on the training pitch doing drills, or am I imagining that (actually just checked. Google images at least has him in training kit on the pitch)? I think that's where there's a difference. Woodward wanted to bring on-field knowledge across from rugby and it just didn't work. He wanted to coach. Brailsford won't imagine he knows football better than anyone else and won't be on the training pitch, but might get the right structures in place behind the stage.

The only gains he'll make with Yanited's squad are marginal. Perfect for the job.

It has about as much chance of working as Woodward did at SCBC IMO. Worth a punt I guess if they're going for a retool etc.

I just can’t get my head around Onana playing for them on the 14th then playing another game on the 15th.
Why on earth is his national team agreeing to that and why is the player?
It’s absolutely bonkers, if I’m a second or third choice keeper there surely I’m looking to move this month if the management have got such little faith in me, especially seeing how bad Onana has been this season.

Always have been to careful with getting managers from teams like Ajax, as they are so well run as a club from top to bottom that getting a tune out of them isn't that difficult.
That's massively dismissing what a fantastic job he did there.

He also took them to their 1st CL semi final since 1997.

No-one better at spotting the need for new medical appointments, what paperwork to do when, filing it…

On a serious note that’s the exact thing that was said about Woodward

Ratcliffe/Ineos owns a football club in Ivory Coast as well. Dunno if that's anything to do with it or just a coinkydink...

Haha Ten Hat thinks at our place they dominated us. Guess he didn't watch the game after 20 minutes. They started well, faded, then got battered.

In fairness we were lucky not to 3 down at halftime. But second half we really played some great stuff we took our chances.
