What a stupid signing that was. Bang average player bought because we thought it was a 'deal'. Far too many of these. Better off not buying. Use the kids.

Is he average though? He had great games in the CL. We just bought him and had no plan where he was going to play, what role he was going to have in the team. Just a failure on our part IMO.

gutted.. but possibly loan is the best move..

any chance of recalling him back as and when we want? I have no idea who else to call on our no. 10 when Eriksen needs covered..

Holbty isn't a great player by any means, but at least he can spot a forward pass and has some awareness of his team mates.

That would be Paulinho, although Chadli & Lamela can both play there too.

Hopefully this will change now. Its a symptom of changing your manger set up all too frequently as well. It means we're constantly in transition as new managers come in with different ideas, styles and preferences.

I know Poch is mostly about coaching and improving what he has and we'll always have 'our way' of doing deals but some continuity would ensure this scatter gun approach to players is negated somewhat.

Yeah, but even AVB seemed to have no idea where to play him. It was a transfer committee failure really. AVB obviously didn't want him particularly.

I suspect he's a better player than he's shown at Spurs, but he's never really found his position and it's probably best for everyone that he moves on.

A shame as his work-rate was never in question, which is more than can be said for some based on the evidence of yesterday.

Shame as I really like him and he looked good in preseason. Linked up well with Defoe in league cup games and could see a through ball/made runs into the box. Big cheerleader for the team as well. Just not the right team set up for him I think as he was very good for schalke

That's what's worrying. No problem with a committee approving deals but if there's little or not input from the manager what the hell is the point? The manager has to have serious input. Not saying he should have free reign, of course not, but its never made much sense to me.

Just identifying players for a manager isn't good enough - a manager should know all about the character of the player as well and have strong preferences on all aspects of a player's profile.

If we don't sell Townsend I bet its another transfer committee failure - because they think he's destined for greatness.

What do we do to players when they come to WHL, was Lewis not an up and coming star at Schalke
on the verge of the national team ?

Paulinho will do that IMO. It was where he played last Thursday remember.

Holtby did say that his talk with AVB was what convinced him to come. He may have been sugar coating it though.

Holtby was a good prospect, there's no doubt about that, but it doesn't look like it was meant to be. A bit sad, the winner away against Cardiff where he played a huge part and his winner against Fulham were among my best memories from last season.

When we employed Pochettino my first thought was that this is a great news for Holtby. Gutted it hasn't worked out the way I wanted for him. I thought he was perfect for the high pressing style, but it looks like Poch doesn't see it. This is the third manager he has had and none of them have ever really fancied him, its sad because I think all signs are pointing to the fact that his Spurs career might be over.

Its disappointing news.

Even at Fulham, where he was given free reign to really shine his performances weren't out of this world.

A good player, possibly even good enough to be a regular squad addition at Spurs, but we'll have to trust MP on this one.

I would imagine the non homegrown factor plays into this also.

Will be massive for HSV I reckon. Very good player for a team of that stature.
