I think that's the precise reason why he wanted to leave.

its all about rotation though. with his skill set he's not gonna be a bonafide starter in our team, if he thinks he's better than that then he can either prove it or leave for a worse team.[ding ding ding]

Not sure if this has been linked already, couldn't see it here.

Seems to suggest its been confirmed on 4 year deal.

Its a shame, I thought he was going to be a great signing but it never seemed to click for him here, reports seem to suggest he has been poor out on loan as well.

Still haven't seen anything official, but this article uses pretty assured language and is quite the write-up if it were just on hearsay such as a tabloid.

Can't be that bad, seems to average 7 out of 10 in his performances - http://www.whoscored.com/Players/41004/Show/Lewis-Holtby

He really hasn't been bad at all. He was one of the highest profile transfer moves into the Bundesliga for a crap side that scored all of nine goals in the first half of the season, with four of those being from the penalty spot. He has also played a great deal of time at left wing this season since it's their weakest position, and from his performances at Spurs we know he is not a good winger. It's just a very dysfunctional side trying to find their feet after making some poor transfer decisions in the summer before they brought in their current director of sport, and Holtby is the face of it. Entirely an illusion, as he's been one of the best still trying to string things together and playing his heart out every game.

They're said to be pretty aggressive this window to ensure their survival, and some of the moves being heavily rumored are pretty promising (Drmic from Leverkusen who we were linked to in the summer, and Kadlec from Frankfurt) and address their need for speed up front. I think Holtby in particular will benefit a great deal from these improvements.

TLDR: Don't let anyone tell you he's been shite, as it's just a media-driven illusion.

He is not young anymore.
He wouldn't be and wasn't close to 1st choice.
He is not home grown.
Eriksen is younger than him.
Pritchard is even younger.
He had no skill which was outstanding, ie. he was best at nothing.
He has missed vital time to adjust to Pochettino's "system".

He has played his last match for Spurs under a paid contract.

I still would have liked to have seen him given a chance playing the box to box mid rather than attacking mid. Thought he did very well there in preseason spreading the ball out, finding space, and driving the team forward. His energy and rapid pressing ability (his knack for reading passes and dribbles was underrated/under-discussed) would have been a beneficial asset in Poch's system IMO.

I do agree that he's not coming back though, but I don't think it's because we wanted him out.

I'm not negative to him, I don't dislike him at all. I was trying to be realistic and level headed, without tying hopes and emotions into it.

Which you certainly did, but I was merely pointing out another scenario where I think he could have been useful (since in your post you alluded to him playing CAM) in our current setup.

Haha none of it matters though since he's gone, so is all pandering anyway.

It's an interesting thought, and I've heard it, and agreed to it, before. Looking at Paulinho, Capoue & Stambouli of late, & Bentale when he is jaded, Holtby wouldn't have done any worse.

So he'll be like "I've seen this before somewhere"

Seriously can't understand why we'd let Holtby leave. He is so different to what we currrently have in the squad. I love his work rate and I feel Holtby is the sort of player the team needs, he has potential goals and could imo understudy Eriksen.

A bad move IMO to let him go unless the club sees Pitchard filling that role but still.

Holtby is jack of all trades but master at none. Work rate was never a problem with Holtby. His biggest drawback was he never took the game & affected change. We have few such players in squad - but they were brought in at high price. So, guess Holtby has become the expendable one.

Good luck to him.

I like him as a player but he always ran out of steam at around 65 minutes perhaps because of his style of play.
