I wonder what would have happened if it was Liverpool v Tottenham.. odd to gift the win to spurs considering orient have sadly fallen victim of the pandemic. Hope they recover soon
It wouldn't have happened with 2 Premier League teams because we all have regular mandatory testing/isolation protocols in place. If it *did* happen and one of the teams had an outbreak (and there was no possibility to play the match before the next round), we'd see the exact same outcome - the other team would progress.

That is a disgusting amount of money at that level.

If the government wants to encourage sporting activity, they have to stump up. Or they can do like my government in Norway and cancel all non-professional adult football and face a huge backlash that way too.

Agree. Saw this earlier.

Either team would field their u23s in that situation.

What are the player eligibility requirements for FA Cup squads?

Why have they not called it off yet?
It's not exactly much travel to their ground anyway and no fans were going. I suspect the clubs already know and will be confirmed in the morning. Has José done a pre-match presser today?

Wonder how they managed to have so many players test positive?

Shame for Orient, I’m very fond of them and they’re my second team.

Maybe Orient are being given the chance to put a team together and then get sanction from the FA to switch venues.

Double figures of their players positive.

Jesus. It must be absolutely rampant in League 2.

Actually, reading that article, as much as we all like Orient, it's bad from them. They had a "number of people suffering with illnesses" before they played Mansfield on Saturday then 9 players with "a bug" and their head physio didn't get them tested. I initially thought all the positive test results must've been asymptomatic because surely they'd get tests done at any signs of illness but if it turns out half of them were ill that's really not great, especially when they go on to say that the "priority is the health and well-being of players and staff". If half your team falls ill during a damn pandemic, isolate them and get them tested ffs.

I was looking forwards to this, if we do get a bye I'll get another orient shirt for my nephew.

I just hope my brother hasn't been working at Orients training ground just recently.

Thats incompetence on a personal level. You dont need a physio or your superior at work to tell you if you're suffering symptoms you should isolate and book a test. Wtf were these dickheads thinking?

At the time Embleton stressed it was “not a Covid issue for any of us to worry about” and after the game he revealed that as many as “nine players” were struggling to play because of a “bug”. Orient’s doctor and head physio conducted regular medical checks and are understood to have felt comfortable the symptoms reported by players were unrelated to Covid-19 until last Friday, when it became apparent a couple of players were suffering from symptoms linked to the virus.

Wow

Sure but it's also incompetence (wilful or otherwise) from the team. If a bunch of obviously ill players turn up for training, at the start of what looks like it's going to be a horrific second wave of a pandemic, put 2 and 2 together ffs. Don't just assume it's "a bug" and carry on as normal.

They said they would've paid for tests before our match but... when?

Only discovered because our club paid for the tests,
wonder how many other Premier League clubs that turn into panic mode before this cup round.

Kudos to Levy for looking out after Spurs by having Leyton orient tested as, unlike the EPL, there is no requirement for them to be tested. Absolute shame on the EFL for not making sure that all players and staff at all levels have regular testing. What did they expect was going to happen? On a macro level, shame on Western governments not doing the utmost to protect their citizenry. Students back at school - no testing. People back at work - no testing. Why are there just not rapid, reliable tests that are available to all people? Seems not to be a priority at all. You want the fans back in the stands, businesses back at full capacity, pubs and bars open, it's really simple. People need to know they are able to confidently appreciate the risks around them. That is just not possible.

Shame for Leyton Orient as I'm sure they were counting on the funds from the match.

Next round

If there are other Premier league teams (e.g. Newcastle) playing league 2 sides (e.g. Shrewsbury) that haven't been tested regularly, and a large number of players from the Premier league side end up getting infected, will the result of the premier league game also get decided the same way? Even worse, what if the Premier league side travels for their next away league fixture with a load of players that are asymptomatic and spread the virus?

This season has spursy written all over it. I now fully expect us to be top of the league come April, only for the season to be announced null and void
