Man City clear-out - who would we take?

A topic that's been touched upon elsewhere but I thought worthy of a thread. Given Citeh's very large (37?) squad and a limit of 25 you have to think there's a few players that will be shifted cheaply either permanently or loans. 'Arry said as much yesterday:

"I think there will be a few loans," said Redknapp. "Clubs like Manchester City will have too big a squad as you can only have 25 players on your roster.
"They will have a problem and there will be players that clubs will want to loan out that will be good players that are earning good wages.
"Clubs will have to cut their wage bills and they don't want players sitting around doing nothing.
"I think if you are clever there are loans out there that for clubs like us would be interesting, but certainly not from abroad."
Redknapp believes there are players of the calibre of Joe Cole, who joined Liverpool last week on a free transfer despite interest from Spurs, who could be enticed to White Hart Lane.
"We are not talking about spending a fortune. I think there are a couple of bargains out there still," stated Redknapp.
"Joe Cole was one of those. There are one or two more around that would do a great job and would just make a difference for us."

Out of the players potentially in the surplus category who would you take and at what price/loan?

I'm coming around to Bellamy for <£7m if we can't get Turan. I'd take Richards (<£8m) given his potential turnaround under 'Arry and the lack of Woodgate and King playing time this season.

Other than that I'm not sure I'd take many others as upgrades on what we have and would rather save the cash for a world class #9.

In any case, I'm sure Levy will leave it late so Citeh are distressed sellers.

Thoughts amigos?

I like Stephen Ireland, good footballer. Bellamy, I guess. Micah Richards has potential.

And Tevez, a sneaky £15/£20m bid for him? Yeah, go on then...

The only two who would genuinely improve our side are Tevez and Adebayor, and the former won't be going anywhere. Adebayor I'd take in an instant though, especially after his nice guy transformation. He's matures since last January when he suffered tragedy and he has the skillset to bring the best out of any of our other forwards as well as score a hatful on the back of our midfields creativity.

Nedum Onuoha would be a better option than Richards in my opinion... I think he has more potential and the right attiutde as aposed to Richards who to me looks like another chavy footballer who likes to flash the cash...

possibly Santa Cruz? whether he still has it in him is debatable but at 27ish still has a good couple of years... would be a good option from the bench but realistically I reckon HR will be looking for a bigger name striker as he isnt an upgrade on any of our current strikers...

Why do i have a funny feeling Redknapp is talking about Santa Cruz. If he wants a bargain then go and sign Klose for a couple of seasons. He will cost next to nothing and he will score atleast 15 league goals is this very poor defensive league we play in. Plus he can play upfront on his own.

He did want RSC before he signed for Citeh.

the thing with city - if they're loaning out, it makes no sense surely to loan out to us a rival

unfortunately it's more likely clubs like west ham and fulham will benefit more amongst the london clubs - and destinations like toon sunderland etc oop north if they can afford the wages, or do a 'split wages' deal with city

i think the city situation may well end up hurting not helping us

the player realistically i'd like most from them is bellamy, if he'll take a wages cut and harry is happy he can handle him (which i'm sure he is)

The Bellamy deal will depend on the Balotelli transfer. If City sign him then he have about 17 forwards and i'm sure Mancini already knows, Bellamy is not the sort of player to sit there quietly.

Tevez wouldnt go anywhere for less tha 30 million at the moment. He was awsome last season. But that might all change in january time. Maybe not getting a game depending on the rotation thing thats gonna go on at city.

fair comment - but as i've indicated city surely won't be looking to help us, so may set the bar a bit higher for us than others

but we'll see - so many ifs and buts re bellamy - but if in-form and fit he could give us a real edge in the early season, when we'll be still missing sandro and maybe a foreign striker will be finding his feet, literally and metaphorically :)

The main reason i would sign Bellamy is for his electric pace. Even at 31 he was burning right backs for example of Rafa Da Silve for fun last season. When Lennon is out of the team we do not have a player who frightens opposite team defenders with their pace especially if Bale is playing at left back.

Plus he can play on the left or right of a three and down the middle with a partner. Plus he is a nasty piece of work which i think we lack and can still be very soft away from home.

Yeah, City has a giant squad. 37. That's a whopping 2 more than we have listed. 2 goalkeepers as well.

exactly - i rate the guy - it's just can we do a deal that satisfies harry and danny, given city won't be helpful, i assume, and there is a big downside with craig's 'less than impeccable' history :)

I wouldn't take any of them. I'd prefer the prospect of them having far too many players for the 25-man squad...

Stephen Ireland would definitely improve our squad and probably get into the first team. He is wasted at City. If we sell Jenas then he would be the perfect signing. I really hope we are going for him.

Richards could be the sort of player 'Arry could get playing at his best again, so if the ££ was right might be worth a punt, especially if Woodgate and Ledley are doubtful... Otherwise CB/RB is a pretty cluttered area of our squad...

I wouldn't bother with Bellamy, even though he can be a dangerous and effective player he doesn't do it often enough... On average he only plays about half a season and I think the most he's ever scored in one season is 13... He probably wouldn't cost a huge amount, but whatever that is would be better directed towards a proper No. 9...

I would take Barry. He hasn't done too good since his move to City, but I think Harry would bring the best out of him. He was injured going into the World Cup, so I think some of the criticism he received was harsh.

I would still be happy with Bellamy aswell. One of their best players last season. Plenty of experience, deadly pace, fighting spirit and can give us a wide attacking option for a different formation.

Ireland is another one I would be happy with. He's an intelligent player who I think would upgrade on Jenas. He's a midfielder who can score goals too, which would be useful if we ever play 1 up top.
