Man City clear-out - who would we take?

Stephen Ireland would definitely improve our squad and probably get into the first team. He is wasted at City. If we sell Jenas then he would be the perfect signing. I really hope we are going for him.

It'll be interesting to see who they (City) offload. Looking at their midfield options, can't see them giving all of Toure, Ireland, Barry, De Jong enough playing time. And, considering City is a big name kinda club, I reckon the one of those four we need the most, Ireland, might be available.

Lescott. Good player whose price tag affected him. Harry could bring the best out of him again. He was great at everton and would be awesome with Dawson!

The only two who would genuinely improve our side are Tevez and Adebayor, and the former won't be going anywhere. Adebayor I'd take in an instant though, especially after his nice guy transformation. He's matures since last January when he suffered tragedy and he has the skillset to bring the best out of any of our other forwards as well as score a hatful on the back of our midfields creativity.

This.

In the realms of reality, dealing only with players that they may well offload...Stephen Ireland, snap him up. Unfortunately, 'Arry has already said that he rates him as a player but won't be trying to sign him (though that could just as well mean in 'Arry-speak that he is number one target:grin:).

but why would they help us out? i just can't see it

 Just as an intellectual exercise: They could feel that by strengthening us they and thus making 5, 6, even 7, genuine challengers for the top 4 spots, they might benefit more if we were weakened and they had to try to force their way past a reconstituted and newly powerful Nig 4.

Don;t necessarily believe it, just wanted to show that it is possible to envisage circumstances where they wold be prepared to be favourable to us.

Look Citeh don't seem to have the chance to see the best of Santa Cruz. He has been injured a lot and in recent times the club moved on to a higher profile leaving him as a bit of a forgotten player. I feel that he could well with Defoe and would prefer him to Keane, Pav and Crouch. He is big and strong and holds the ball up better than the three mentioned....I'd like to see him come to us.

I suggested this at the end of the season...but then the spectre of his injury record was introduced, and it worried me a bit.

depends on who's actually available of course, but their bargain bin is quite the treasure trove. I feel richards or onuoha would be excellent for us considering the unlikelihood of woodgate and king giving us a full season. in the midfield as mentioned, ireland is a fantastic player going to waste and de Jong would be useful. Up front, bellamy and adebayor both look decent players.

whether or not we actually end up with any of them is a different matter. we'd also have to ship out a fair few players ourselves...

still don't see why city will help us with a bargain from their treasure trove

they might sell someone at or near market rate - but otherwise why help out a rival for the CL places?

Here is another possibility: They have 37 players at current, and are still looking to buy more in, but have to reduce that to 25 by the end of the season. Now I know some on here have said they could just not register them, loan them out etc, but I seriously doubt that even the Sheihks are gonna want to let things get so outta hand...it could take a life of its own, they still aren't guarenteed success, and soon enough they are gonna have to operate within their means. So, thye will have to dispose of 12 or 13 players preferrably (from their point of view) in as business like a fashion as possible. This will seriously inhibit their ability to play hardball over players. Besides, whenever they talk then mention United, Chelsea, The Goons, and Liverpool...still not sure they are traeting us with proper respect as serious rivals.

oh am not suggesting that they will make it easy or in any way help us intentionally, but was merely pointing out that there are some very handy players there to be had for knock down prices.

should any other teams with a decent wad of dosh have quite a small squad they can really beef up their squad with this fire sale at city - provided they are happy to risk playing the waiting game and show no forseeable threat to city, e.g. Fulham, West Ham.

anyone form given hart richards kompany De Jong Barry Irelend Tevez Robinho Bellamy

I would love us to get De Jong. We would have De Jong and Wilson for one position and Sandro and Huddlestone for the other

Have to say I'd forgotten about Lescott and wonder whether they might give up on him such is their obsession with overnight success. He could form a handy partnership with Daws with a bit of 'Arry TLC.

De Jong
Bellamy
Lescott
Kompany
Richards
Ireland

In that order. All very good players and ridiculous that City are so keen (allegedly) to kick them all out.

Incidentally my reasoning for the above is...

1. De Jong - An excellent midfielder. Probably at least on a par with Palacios and with experience at the highest level.

2. Bellamy - The sort of player we don't have. Can run the channels and gets a good number of goals/assists. Would also give us grit and again has experience at the top level.

3. Lescott/Kompany/Richards - We need centre back cover with Woody looking a goner and Ledley always a worry. All three are good players who've just been treated badly at City.

4. Ireland - Gets goals, runs at people and has a decent pass on him. Again a type of player we don't necessarily have and would be very useful in a 4-5-1. Potential temperament issues but Harry can deal with that.

fair comment :) as you probably know i'd already mentioned west ham/fulham either in this thread or another

plus for example toon/mackems

a lot depends on wages splits for loans

but to repeat i can't see any bargains coming from city to us - it makes no sense

they don't need the money - they need trophies/CL

we are a potential block to those aims
