That's because he had played well.

Bentaleb had already made at least 2 of those that went unpunished in safer zones but didn't learn and even his jog back was uninspired given that he had fucked up. Poor Nabil went on to make another couple stray passes so clearly he's not on today.

I don't think he's someone who will slump if criticised, so Poch should replace him and get him to work harder. The team has many other young options who could replace him if he continues his complacent passing. Man U might be droll today but that doesn't mean you don't turn up. I know we are far from being champions but just a little more composure and really taking it to these teams would do well for the long run, instead of turning up, mentally crumbling and allowing them to get away with playing shite and taking all three.

It's a big risk but the drive of Alli through midfield could be the weapon to hurt them...

I came in late but just saw Walker's own goal on the highlights. I swear he must be the dumbest player in the PL.

Bentaleb has been extremely disappointing.
What the fuck did Walker do wrong? He did as much as he could to get back, got the tackle in and it unfortunately rolled into the net. He couldn't have done anything more.

United aren't overloading us with attackers. Let's go 3-5-2. Drop Dier back, push the full backs up, get Dembele to go central with Nabil and get Chadli to play up top with Kane. I'd love to see us give it a go.

We get it BT, only you have CL football from now on. You don't need to remind us during every advert break.

it seems like that's something engrained in the mentality of the club though, we've been like that for as long as I can remember.
It's also Old Trafford is a hard place to play when they score and the crowd gets up. We didn't concede another, so we can't complain too much. Time to rebuild and go again 2nd half.

The problem with Bentaleb's mistake is that it is one he has made numerous times in the last year. He did nearly the identical thing on Tuesday. Whenever he is pressed, he has a tendency to make the wrong decision. Mason has the same problem, and it's a huge issue when these two are our first choice CMs and don't particularly chip in with goals, or constantly create clear cut chances, or even serve as a shield for the back four. We concede so many goals through individual errors, which are very demoralizing to the team on the pitch.

Conceding a goal is a set back, of course, but we have got to be mentally prepared better for that to happen, and not just shrink into our shell, stop doing basic things that we were doing right and enabling us to dominate.

You can't just collectively crumble at the first set back. We must be mentally prepared for set backs, know how to react.
That wasn't just a 'set-back' though. It was a total blunder out of the blue and we made a lot of individual errors last season and that will have just brought it all back and set a bad vibe throughout the team.

I totally expected that to happen and an error like that would affect most teams, especially on the first day and especially at OT.

We can still take a draw from this if we come out and show some composure on the ball, they're definitely brittle at the back.

And of course we need to cut out the unforced errors, they're so hard to stomach,

Hopefully Poch will make a change as well.

We need a DM like Dier - he tackles so well and really puts himself about the place but every time we get the ball to him, United target him as they know he isn't used to the position and the rob the ball off him.

That's the shame of it, united were bang average before our mistake. They better make 2/3 more signings before pundits start talking about the title. Never gonner happen otherwise.

They have four debutants today. It takes time for a team to gel. I was pleased we got them on the first day, fast forward 6 months and playing them at Old Trafford will be a completely different proposition.

How on earth can you not? He kicks the ball into his own net.
He's covering for Bentaleb who gave the ball away.

Covering for an out of position Alderweireld who had to shift over.

Tbh he did brilliantly to get something on it and not foul Rooney; would you rather him just watch Rooney stroke it in?

If Bentaleb starts the second half, I sure as hell hope he starts to focus. So typical Bentaleb performance. Every sixth or so game he plays, he gets nonchalant and loses focus, probably because he's starting to believe his own hype...

So many fucking ball losses, without even being under pressure.

Looked good before the goal (which was a clusterfuck) and then went completely into our shell. I do worry about our character.

Chadli and Eriksen anonymous.

Dier and Bentaleb doesn't work. Quelle Surprise.
Please don't be negative though because a few on here won't like it !! Funny how we called it beforehand though isn't it. Shock horror !!!!

On the plus side, once we kick Walker out of the team and hopefully add the likes of Berahino and a defencive midfielder, I'm looking forward to seeing this team play. We played some really nice stuff in the first half and with a bit of fine tuning should be a far better team than last season.
