I think Villareal are simply trying to see how high they can push up the fee. I'm still optimistic a deal will get sorted.

That and possibly trying to get River to come off their % some since Villareal sound likely to lose the court case to
Haven't seen anything about them "rejecting" anything- if there was a story like that I'm pretty sure the spurspanyol would have translated by now...

If anything, it's likely Villareal trying to play hardball with River.

So everyone who keeps saying we do some shady swap to cut out River from what they are owed, you'd have no problem with clubs doing that to us on players we sell while retaining a sell on %?

Or is this one of those things where we should do this super shady scummy thing but if it happened to us we'd riot?

No - shady dealings are not who we are. Levy is a tough negotiator, but I would lose respect for the club if it ever resorted to any kind of shenanigans. A man's (and club's) reputation is worth far more than any deal.

Levy has to make 1000 more deals - he is not risking that over 1 player, no matter how important anyone thinks he might be.

Levy will bring this one home, or he will move on. As it should be. Villarreal, if reports are to be believed, are damaging its own future prospects at getting young players on a percentage basis.

It wouldn't suprise me if sky are reporting what they read on here a couple of days ago. Don't RiverPlate have a potential replacement that they and VillaReal could do a similar deal on?

They really should be ending all third party ownership deals now, there is no reason for them other than people making money. They should all be replaced with sell on clauses to make up for the losses.

I half agree with you.

Can I have half of your half please?

Villareal must know that this was going to be the case at some point?!? If you are picking up players from south America using this model you are getting a player cheaper to begin with?

They are wanting to eat all their cake when they have only paid for 3 slices.

Surely FIFA (those honest law abiding citizens;)) need to have a look at 3rd party ownership

Has he recently signed a new contract, as I've looked on a couple of sites and it says his contract expires in 2014?

Also surely there must be a clause put in the contract that prevents Villareal letting his contract run down potentially leaving all shared owners with no returns. So would be interested to know how long is left on his contract if that 2014 is wrong.

There's nothing coming out from River on this, so IMO River is just waiting for the money. They not negotiating with anyone.
The few articles that mentioned this deal in Argentina were quoting the spanish press.
The news at River right now are about bids for players they want, or about players that could leave.

I was thinking this earlier. Annoys me when clubs buy players and add ownership rights or sell-on clauses, only for them to bitch at a later date because they won't get as much money out of what is essentially a fair offer. They should've considered that before they bought the fucker, because most the time this just ends up badly for the club digging their heels in.
