The best thing about this link is to finally be in contention for a defender that just loves to defend. There appears far too many in football that seem to think that they are deep lying midfielders. Personally for a CB, I want a big, horrible, nasty defender who just takes pride in the defending part of the game.

Agree. Tired of defenders playing pretty balls but that cant really defend.

I can definitely see us getting him for a reasonable price in this window. We got a great price for Reguilon and I'm not sure Skriniar is worth a lot more. They're also not going to get a bigger offer than us and if he's not in their plans it makes sense to sell.

Obsession with pace now moving onto CBs I guess. Guy ain’t slow anyway, he’s got a burst of acceleration to aggressively come out of defence and pressurise. He’s a unit so try turn him and you’ll be knocked to the floor. His running style makes him seem slower but he’s no Usain Bolt if that is what your number 1 prerequisite is.

Arguably some of the below are not slow but I wouldnt insist on calling their speed anything above 'average' especially towards the end of their careers when they were still undoubtably very good CBs.

Vidic,
Terry
Puyol
Cannavaro
Stam
Desailly
Costacurta
Chiellini
Carragher (pushing it here with the 'Elite' phrase but was still very good)
Adams
Kompany

Ok, but apart from them?

My only concern with Skriniar is his lack of pace. Especially as Toby has become extremely slow. Whereas Sanchez does have decent pace, I just do not trust his defending skills at all. However, if Tanganga could step up, a CB pairing of him and Skriniar would basically have all the attributes needed.

There's only one solution. Tell him part of the medical is a 4 way 100 metre between him, Dier, Toby and Sanchez and see where he fits.

I'd much rather have a CB who is in the right position almost all the time versus one that can look spectacular by using pace to make up for a lack of positioning.

Plus, we've given up so many chances and goals from set pieces I wouldn't mind a guy that looks like he's part of Martin Skrtel's gang assassinating the ball out of our own 18.

I still think Sanchez can make it at the top level with a better partner, good full backs and PEH in front of him, Skriniar may be just the man.

Not convinced Mourinho is getting over his Dier obsession any time soon though, he's very stuborn

I wonder if there’s a double deal to be done for this guy and Eriksen. If inter really want to move both on I’d be happy to take Eriksen back.

A big burly Slovakian centre half who can only defend? I'm afraid you have all misspelt Skrtel.

Agree, if you can read the game and know where to position yourself, you do t need to be Linford Christie.....Ledley wasn’t exactly quick

I don’t know why but I always get Humphrey Bogart’s voice in my head when I read your posts

I'd rather a Skriniar and Brozovich double deal personally. Would balance out our midfield options splendidly - though I imagine it could only happen if Ndombele or Alli were going in the other direction. Broz situation one to keep an eye on nonetheless.
