Yeah people need to grow up a bit regarding this kind of thing. If a player improves us I don’t really care who he’s played for in the past.
Don't you mean currently plays for and has a contract with(Chelsea) while he temporary pulls our shirt on. Who's badge will he be kissing.

He is a DM, some people just seemingly think he's not good enough based on a handful of games so far at a new club.

Don't think it's that at all, it's simply that we have 2 for every position except his.

I’ve been pretty optimistic about this transfer but it seems to be quite unlikely now, which is a shame. Still been a fantastic window
Less than 24 hrs a go itk were confident on getting our main choice CH sorted, alas it seems the deal has broken down, this from various sources to hard to ignore.

We'll be good with Toby, Sanchez, Dier and Tanganga. We can still go back in January if we don't sign CB now. January window is a tricky one if you need a striker but it should not be a problem to get CB if needed.

Maybe I'm alone in this but I see Winks as Hojbjerg's backup, that's why I don't like seeing them play together - it's too defensive. Winks is obviously a different type of player but I think that deep-lying role is where he's best off playing.

To be fair you've been posting all week this wouldn't happen, why was that?

I see our team as a midfield 3 myself and I think we tend to go, DM, CM, AM and would put Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Lo Celso in those 3 roles though Ndombele and Lo Celso can seemingly do both. I see Skipp as the backup DM eventually which is probably why we won't buy anyone, Winks as backup to the CM role and Dele as backup to that AM role, though I think Dele would be better competing with Son for the left role.

It’s just dawned on me that if we don’t sign him before Monday that the winter transfer window will be open again in less than 12/13 weeks time anyhow. So it’s hardly a big deal if we don’t get him in before Monday. We should have enough quality to get through the group stages of EL and rotate to keep our key players fit for PL games until January where we can then revisit the potential CB signing when the club should have a better idea of the financial landscape that they’ll be in.

I haven't made that many posts have I! I have no more knowledge than the next person I just have a gut feeling this deal has run its course. Forums are full of opinions.

Thinking about Skriniar and to me it seems like Inter are between a rock and a hard place.

If Conte really isn't a fan and would rather not play him, the less game time he gets the more Conte and Inter are devaluing the asset. If Conte is nonplussed about Skriniar, the only sensible business move to make is to sell him, sharpish. The senior management at Inter can't really go to Conte and try and exert pressure to force him to pick Skriniar because it's Antonio Conte, not some random reserve team coach that will buckle under that kind of pressure.

So what do Inter do? It seems like they have been trying to use our interest to start some kind of auction for the player but it hasn't worked and now they have few options, they either keep the player if the hope that Conte plays him and, at minimum, retains the current valuation or they do a deal with us and get some money in the bank with future payments from a club and a league that are as close to AAA rated as you will ever get in football.

I don't agree that Davies can play centre back. He can play left of a 3 but not in a 2. It means we could play him with wingbacks but would still need to occupy 2 more centre backs so are not any different in terms of lacking depth. For me we need one more centre back to cover Foyth.
We need to buy cover for a guy who never played?

Despite moving a DM to that position and promoting a youth product?

I’m all for buying Skriniar but Dier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, and Tanganga is ample coverage.

I don’t want to see us like United or Arsenal with about 12 CBs on the books that aren’t good enough.

It's not like we haven't signed any other ex Chelsea players... Greaves, Gallas, Parker etc. If you want to win things, you sign the players regardless. Think that stopped Willian to Arsenal? Cesc to Chelsea? Cech to Arsenal? They happen. 'Fans' need to accept that.

EDIT: Apologies still thinking I'm in Rudiger thread!
Those aren’t the greatest of examples. The only one that actually counts in this instance is Cech who had a handshake agreement with the club because of what a servant he had been that they wouldn’t stand in his way to playing. Not only that but they wanted to keep the good will and had a handshake deal for Cech to join the backroom staff (which he has) when he retires. Rudiger in no way has that kind of sway around there.

Willian was a free transfer so Chelsea had zero control.

Fabregas didn’t go from Arsenal to Chelsea, he went from Barcelona to Chelsea - completely different.

Surely if Foyth is permanent sale, loan fee for sessegnon, possibly further exits and money from Europa qualification I would have thought we match Inters valuation.

I mean , regardless of where you see Winks' best position he has largely been playing as the deeper midfielder for quite some time now and even PEH seems to play in front of him, so I aslo believe that these are our two defensive midfielders atm.

Very much of the same opinion. I would love us to cap off an already 10/10 transfer window by adding the cherry on top of the icing on top of the cake, but we should have enough cover everywhere to be strong all the way through to Jan window , when we can reassess. Of course it'll be typical Spursy to see Dier and Sanchez collide into each other tomorrow and both be out for 8 weeks with injuries, but assuming that doesn't happen, we can cope, it's just that we would look so so strong with this extra signing.

Hard part is that Inter want to spend the money, so I don’t think this one can go right to the end.

If we really like the player, this is the best price we’ll ever see for him. I get that we’ve got a bit of a cash crunch, but it’s short term. Uncle Joe should be there as a backstop.

We will absolutely have to spend at CB over the next few seasons. Toby will go over the cliff at some point and I seriously doubt whether Dier and Sanchez are good enough to be a true top 4 backline.
