“Dear Premier League,
I am suing you for not allowing my beloved club to over by the state investment arm of a undemocratic government where the sole power holder personally authorised the assassination and dismemberment of a moderately well known journalist who dared disagree with him. We feel you should ‘look past’ the fact that this ruler also authorised the most sophisticated, nationwide sport TV piracy in history just to piss of a neighbouring country that disagreed with Saudi foreign policy while owning the PL broadcast rights. All in all, we feel the presence of Ms Stavley, who is currently litigating against Barclays for her total failure to get her clients anything like as good a deal as every other investor in the same transaction, should give you comfort that the new owners are well advised.
Hugs’n’kisses,
The toon”

Can anyone explain why Newcastle fans are protesting the premier league?

As far as Im aware the Saudi's are illegally distributing the PL feed which makes the takeover messy

They want more transparency from the PL over why deals are rejected.
Or that's what a Newcastle fan told me.

Yeah it just feels like they are desperate to be one of the big boys and because the PL are blocking it they feel they are being hard done by.

I can understand them pointing to City and Chelsea, as these cases are no different to their own. However, I do get pissed off when their fans turn blame on us, Arsenal and other teams who oppose this takeover.

Why should clubs who have operated in 'the right way' - following rules and taken years of progression to elevate their standing - accept that another club can rock up and push them down the ladder, ultimately meaning it significantly reduces their chances of winning trophies or qualifying for the CL?

They don't seem to get that and just think it's sour grapes.

Im asking since Ant and Dec are moaning about this now and they make it seem like there is giant conspiracy against them

They're desperate to be back in the 90's, when hall and shepherd bought the league and still made a pigs ear of it

It’s pretty simple - the Saudi government had a tiff with Qatar, and to poke them in the eye they created BeOutQ: a sophisticated pirate TV station to show PL games in Saudi so that the Qatari TV rights holders (who paid the PL for the right to show those games) BeINsport would make no money from their rights.

The PL’s option is that if, as a government, you’ve spent the last 5 years ripping off PL rights, your government investment company aren’t a fit and proper owner.

fair enough really…

A bit like applying for a job at a shop you've been caught nicking from, and complaining that they're not being fair when they reject you

As long as someone isn't doing anything that impacts PL income they pass the test. Nice to know where the PL draw the line.

Now the piracy issue has now been resolved I expect them to come back with a vengeance and that the PL won't stop it now. Sad.

So, if this goes through there will be 3 financially doped clubs in the English premier and only 4 champions league places.

We, on the other hand have owners, who aren't in the least bit interested in showing real ambition (ie the ambition to win the premier league as opposed to just scrape top 4 every now and then on the cheap).

so what was the point of that phenomenal stadium? Boxing? Concerts? NFL? 3rd tier European football?

The phenomenal stadium would go towards paying for the ambition you desire instead of corrupt, murderous governments and wanted criminals.

Self-sustained. Self-supporting.

The point about the stadium is that in ENICs eyes it is a huge wealth creating asset which they can 'dip into' without cost to themselves, where as the football is a secondary issue which pays running costs, therefore a no lose situation. Not daft are they.

Of course I’d rather fund big ambitions in a self-sustaining manner

My issue is that I have lost all faith in ENIC’s desire to take the club in that direction even when the money from that stadium does come rolling in, and even if the ambition genuinely was there, how do you compete with Abu Dhabi and Saudi Arabia??

Newcastle fans deserve a better owner but also, ugh. Another state body involved in the plaything that is becoming football can only be a bad thing for the rest of the league, and the sport as a whole.

We better get our act together because a club as big as Newcastle with this sort of financial support is going to be a serious threat very soon.
