One part of this that concerns me is the “& club” reference. Surely the decision should be that of the manager and the manager alone. Intimates meddling from above in football matters.

I’m not against the decision at all, just very strange that it’s mentioned.
I guess it’s not just about leading a team out on the pitch anymore - you’re an ambassador for the club to millions of people globally. The game has changed a lot over the last decade and more so than ever we as a club at at the foreground of that. Ange would have got a good sense who would suitable in his short time here - but it is only a short time and he probably needed feedback from
people around the team and club. For all the issues at board level - it seems that the working environment and player attachment to the club is pretty good, so yeah I don’t think it’s that much of an issue.

Overall I think it’s a smart decision. Seems unanimous those three players were the most popular picks by fans. Son loves the shirt and this must be the first Asian player to be a premier league club captain. It pretty’s huge and a positive step forward.

Very happy for Son but wouldn’t have been my pick mainly because captains should play every game and we don’t know yet if he’ll get back to his best after last year.

Also, 2 vice captains? Who will get the armband if Son is injured? They can’t swap it around surely?

Son would’ve been my vice captain to reward his loyalty and one of Bentancur, Maddison, Bissouma or Romero would’ve been my 1st choice. Probably Romero as I think he’d mature with the armband but still keep a large percentage of his shithousery with him.

Anyway, congrats Son, onwards and upwards!

Romero’s a surprise to me.

Delighted neither Davies nor Dier got the VC roles. Shows we’re actually looking to the future.

Omission of Hojbjerg presumably suggests he’s leaving.

The choice of captain, and vice-captains, really is the strongest signal that we are moving on, and leaving the last era behind.

(that, and selling the best player from the last era...)

Pretty much as expected. Sonny the only real logical choice. I think had Maddison been here a season he'd of got the nod, but happy he's in there as a vice captain. Hopefully it helps Romero calm down a bit too with the added responsibility of being a leader in the group.
Exactly. Having that responsibility should help him maintain his composure. Great decision.

I love that Ange especially chose a defender, a midfielder and a forward as the captains. Finally all outfield players. Really the beginning of the new and exciting era.

Maybe it’s because the official title is Club Captain.
Yeah there’s nothing to it in my opinion. I get that the people who run the club are unpopular, and especially so at the moment, but the distrust of Levy’s role in every thing the club does at the moment is getting ridiculous.

Ange has appointed Son as captain. He’s now the official face of the club. Of course that appointment is going to be rubber stamped by the ‘Club’, even as a formality, as I’ve no doubt it would be at any Premier League club.

An actual sensible decision from the club?

Wildlife gif. A white owl turns his head to look straight at us and has an expression of pure shock. Its eyes are wide and its mouth is open as if gasping.

It's kind of funny to think about - given the photos and social media ready to go after the Kane announcement. I would guess the players and team have known for a couple of days.

It was Ali Gold who asked the question about Captains - and then the specific follow-up about Sonny... I bet he knew!

I know I mentioned that I thought Maddison was a better choice but, Son is still a good choice. This could be the push he needs to step up. Romero too could be matured by this.

An astute move by Ange, Sonny already a club legend and loved by everyone.

Madders, just joined and must be gutted Kane has left, this will give him an additional boost and by all account a good leader.

Cuti, World Cup winner and will be great for the South American/Spanish speaking contingent.

COYS 😀
