Being an Aussie I'm gonna throw Ange Postecoglu's hat in the ring. Has always tried to play good football and overachieved with his squads. Is a good fella and from all accounts his players genrally love him. For it seems when we go for the big names it has failed. Santini, AVB, Mourinho, Conte. The more successful have been the less fancied. Jol, Redknapp, Poch. Just my two pennies.

I keep reading reasoning like this. Although when Brighton get a manager who they’ve headhunted because they know his philosophy will work with their current playing staff, meaning it’s an almost seamless transition, it’s hailed as joined-up thinking, and all part of their amazing strategy.

But when we try similar to minimise yet another churn of playing staff after 18 months of building a team to fit one managers playing style, it’s seen as ‘cheap’ and ‘short-sighted’.

You’ve got to laugh.
But Brighton don't have players like Dier, Sanchez and Perisic to build around.
Out of the current squad i would feel at most 7 or 8 players are good enough to be kept on. Levy will do all he can to avoid spending on players. We need a large rebuild of atleast 4 or 5 players but wouldn't be suprised if we get 2 or 3 max.

I think it's more the point that if we pick a manager that doesn't suit the squad at all, we not only need to sign a keeper, CBs and a new CAM, but probably ALSO 2 fullbacks that can function in a back 4 (I know Royal can play there, but he, famously, has his limitations).

It just adds an extra layer to the rebuild while also making a bunch of our recent signings a bit pointless, clogging up the squad in the process.

I'm not sure personality should matter. It seems to be why we didn't get Ten Haag. Although I can understand getting a younger option.
Disagree. Personality and communication with the players, press and especially fans is paramount. Things will inevitably go wrong at times but explaining things and how these things are going to be fixed goes a long way.

I agree with your points mate but even then will Levy spend on a GK, 2 CBs and AM i doubt it sadly.
Most transfer windows we sign 1 or 2, the problem is we need 1 window to rebuild the squad with 4 -5 players then in future windows supplement with 1 player to improve team.

Well recent windows we've actually splashed the cash a bit - last 2 summers we signed 4-5 players in each one.

Hopefully that continues as we seriously need to keep refreshing the squad - the defence and keeper situation desperately needs sorting ASAP.

It’s been widely reported that we want two centre backs, a goal keeper and attacker this summer. I think that’s realistic considering how many players we’ve signed over the last few windows. We do actually spend money these days so this narrative that Levy is tight or whatever needs to stop.

Point is the signings we require are part of the rebuild which has been happening over the last 18 months. It would be remiss to rip up all that work and target a manager who wants a complete overhaul. It’s just not feasible.

We need a manager who is willing to coach our existing players and has tactical flexibility. If not we risk another 18 months of squad churn and transition to ultimately stagnate and deal with another managerial failure.

Many thanks for your reply mate I’m very aware of your bad news that football is a global game as you call it. I have taken an interest in football from around the world for a long time. Would you mean more that the English premier football league is now a global brand type thing?

I did not mean to offend anyone by suggesting it would be nice to see a local boy English manager Manage the club? I would also say that Mason would be able to show a lot more of the “requisite attitude, application and commitment to our glorious club” than some of our previous talented managers.

I guess I am more an old Skool football fan who is going with the sentiment fairytale of the club doing their own thing and wanting Mason to be appointed. Trouble is I guess an appointment like that would cause a lot of dissent among some of the fan base, as my previous and probably this post will. But my intuition tells me the appointment of Ryan Mason would be a fantastic dream ticket to take the club back to the glory days.

Thanks for the reply mate and I was not remotely offended and hope my response was taken in the spirit it was meant (I respectfully disagree but that’s why a forum is for… we all ultimately want the same thing).

I definitely can relate to having an intuition about certain potential managers, who just seem to have “got it”. Really hope Mason continues his development and turns into a great manager.

Win win for us, if it happens.

If we get the right manager in I can see us doing OK if we bring in a GK, 2 CBs, an attacking CM and deal adequately with whatever happens with Kane. We'd also need to address a wide position if we don't continue with Danjuma. I would also look at a LB/LWB because Sessegnon is so unreliable. Get that lot done and I think we're in decent shape for not huge amounts if we can shift some deadwood. Get the wrong manager though and the rebuild would go much deeper.

Do we infer, as Herc alluded to in his infamous thread, that behind the scenes it is still an utter shit show presided over by Levy whereby no consensus on how to take this club forward is apparent?

is anyone surprised? Lads……It’s Levy!!

we know Levy has no coherent football strategy. Does anyone think that will have changed in the last 2 months.
most likely will be someone “different” to Conte. When he fails it will be someone different again.

these patterns have been plain to see for many years. We might get lucky, as with Poch sometimes when you throw darts blindfolded you do hit a bullseye…the most important changes needed to help the team are what happens in the boardroom this summer
