Which players are worth building around, by the way? More important than the manager is knowing who we can rely upon. I made a list.

Undeniably Elite:
Kane
Rodrigo
Romero

Good, need the correct tactics to shine:
Kulusevski
Porro
Richarlison
Sarr
Son?

Need more evaluation:
Bissouma
Udogie
Danjuma
Skipp

Reliable but meh:
Davies
Hojbjerg
Dier
Forster
Emerson Royal
Sessegnon
Lenglet

Not going to cut it:
Sanchez
Perisic
Lloris
Tanganga

so looking at that. Do we even have a core of the team to build around? We have Bentancur, Romero, a wantaway Kane, and that’s basically it for the elite tier.

Compare that back to 2014 with Poch, we had Kane, Eriksen, Walker, Jan, Toby, Lloris, Mousa… 6 legitimately good players we knew we could trust.

we now have only 3-4 players we know are truly good enough.
Kane
Rodrigo
Romero
Kulusevski
Porro
Richarlison
Sarr
Son
Bissouma
Skipp
Emerson Royal

are good enough for a top 4 squad

It's been pretty obvious for the last few seasons that all that separated us from mediocrity is Kane. There have been several teams below us who had equally good squads with the exception of a reliable top goalscorer. Keeping him is absolutely essential.

Nagelsmann. It's fucking Nagelsmann, not Nagglesman and not Naggelsman. All of you have read his name often enough to be able to fucking spell it correctly.

Fucking numbskulls.
Some people couldn't spell Eriksen correctly after seven years of seeing his name on the back of his shirt every week.

There is absolutely no hope for some people and I'm trying (and failing) to make peace with it.

I’m not so sure mate. Our competition is:

Arsenal, City, United, Liverpool

Chelsea (who will strengthen this summer) Newcastle (who are the next oil club), Brighton

Does our squad match up to any of the top 4 I mentioned there? I really don’t think it does. Not even close. We’ve been spoilt. I don’t think our squad is good enough for top 4 as is. We have Kane keeping us afloat but things look extremely, exceptionally average beyond him.

Yeah and Lampard and Gerrard both were sacked when they were in crisis, Arteta got some leeway because most of his games were played behind closed doors not because of his history.
Lampard in particular got much more time than his results entitled him to at both Chelsea and Everton. Lots of media pundits reluctant to call out their boy "Lamps". It's just a fact, big reputation in the game buys you influence and friends.

Emeron Royal ONLY in a proper system. He's had a great run in the last few months before getting injured but he's a top 4 player as a RB, not RWB.

Ah yes, what better place to discuss if players are good enough for our squad than in the new manager thread.

Can we not?

My prediction, Stellini and Mason are going to do well probably get us fourth. That will impress Levy so they will become permanent and then everything will go sour by October again.

Im inclined to go the other way ie, Stellini and Mason will struggle, the fans will get even more disillusioned, if thats possible , Levy will cave and run to Poch to be his saviour and I could see him appointed in the next week/weeks.

Is there much of a difference between the experience of Kompany and Slot?

One has never managed in England and the premier league while the other although only two years in has a decade of PL winning football as a player under his belt.

Sure Slot is probably the more experienced but it isn’t by that much.
I agree with this. Neither have managerial experience that is remotely comparable to what would be involved in this job. That doesn’t make either of them bad candidates, but their experience is broadly the same - miles off the requirements of managing Spurs.

Compared to someone like Nagelsmann, Pochettino, or even De Zerbi, they aren’t even close in terms of experience (talent or potential is a different question).

Where should I put it then? Managers can’t go kick the ball into the net, the squad we have around them is a crucial part of the conversation

Levy has one get out here and that is to get Nagelsmann. If he doesn’t gonna be so toxic next home game esp if we lose to Everton

I doubt we will have the next bloke announced until the end of the season now. Unless things go massively tits up of course.

Im in no position to judge anyone's intelligence but I've seen both Potch and Levi in the last week.

Auto correct can be a blessing or a curse.

Not this again.

Toby wasn’t even here, he signed in 2015. Walker, Rose, Dembele and Jan all had major question marks over them and a lot of fans wanted them sold. Even Eriksen had major doubters and Kane hadn’t even broken through properly.

A new manager coming in to our club this summer has a lot of talent to work. It’s about picking the right coach who will develop players and play an attacking style.

If we can’t have Poch or Nagelsmann, then it seems like:

De Zerbi
Slot
Postecoglu
Kompany

All fit the category of hungry managers who want to develop and prove themselves and play attacking football while developing players.
