seems Buckland just being honest, could easily have made out it was a top notch source, anyone who knows Buckland would know the fella isn't a BS merchant..
In the sense that he wouldn't just quote any bullshit merchant you mean? That seems more reasonable.

I'm sure I read, somewhere recently, that Bellamy's biggest regret was not signing for Spurs.
He could be an interesting character to have around as he's very passionate about things.

If this is the Marcus Buckland off the tv ,then he is a big spurs fan, been on the spurs show and has presented various sports on tv. Even if it’s true i doubt anything will be announced while Burnley still have games left. His assistant is Craig Bellamy …could be fireworks in the dressing room.

Anderlect were 8th when he took over. In the 2 years, he took them to 3rd placed finishes with a cup final and just missed out on CL qualification. Now, this season, Anderlect in 9th spot. Kompany wasn't a failure, he did as well as he could with the no budget and just young players.
Actually that’s not entirely right. They finished 6th. The 19/20 season in which they finished 8th Kompany was appointed player manager but results were so bad that he reverted back to just playing on match days until the following season but he was still in involved with the project. First Simon Davies then Franky Vercauteren, who took on more control, were the match day managers. So yes you can’t really blame him for that season and it would be unfair to put it on his record you can’t really say it wasn’t partly involved.

Prior to the season they finished 6th they had finished 3rd and before that 1st and 2nd. Anderlect were one of, if not the, biggest clubs in Belgium but there was a recent change of ownership that has seriously damaged the club hence their seeming downward spiral.

Hope VK remembers Yaya’s birthday cake this time.
Have to say I kind of love the idea of Yaya being promoted up to main coaching if we sign Kompany, I mean, talk about staff who walked the walk as players. Inspirational on the field. We talk about needing culture shifts etc.

He's a very different person to talk to compared to his on-pitch character. Really nice guy. Makes time for people. Rated highly as coach.

Nag, Slot and VK. No Poch. Would be my guess.
Happy with any of those.

As for Kompany I do think he should give at least one more year to Burnley. He's earned managing them in the Prem. And if it is to be him, people need to stop worrying about what may or may not happen re City. If City want him then he will have done a decent job here (or wherever they pick him up from) and that can only be a good thing for us surely?

After reading Sean Dyche's words I now want him as manager. It will never happen but I love his quotes.

“I think the in-house view of things is strange in football now. What do you think my teammates would have thought of me if I’d have done that in the mid-90s? They’d have laughed at me. But now they don’t. Millions of kids see footballers cheat every week, diving all over the place, and no one says a word. Someone gets flicked in the eyelash and it becomes a big situation. That’s just the way it is now.”

“I don’t regard that as cheating. It’s gamesmanship. But diving and stuff, going down when you haven’t been touched and self-kicking, that’s cheating. There’s a difference. They brought in a yellow card for diving. If I’m a centre-forward with a chance of getting a penalty or a yellow card, do you think that’s going to stop me going down? Of course it’s not.

“I’m not talking about individuals here. I don’t think for one second that Moura meant it, but he could have hurt him. Equally, and this isn’t particularly about Harry Kane, if someone touches you in the face now, you go down. I know I joked about it but it is worrying to me when I see the physio concussion testing him after that. Really? Come on. And that’s not about being a football manager, it’s just being human. If lads go down in training here, I do tell them to get up. I have my own authentic standards.”

Fair enough - but, and I preface this by stating that my job is mentoring and placing CEO's of companies - I would very, very rarely look to place someone who has no experience anywhere near the level of operating at the level that we operate at with the personalities/expectations that such a role would demand. Kompany may well have potential and get there eventually, I, personally, would not suggest that he would be a sensible option right now. I, however, am not saying that he wouldn't be a success, he may be incredible, and such bets have made companies in the past - but they have also ruined far, far more. Rodgers, I personally have no real view on as I don't know enough to proffer an informed opinion.
I think ‘ruined far more’ is over dramatic. The way football operates is nothing like CEO’s of major companies. If Kompany were to be an unmitigated disaster by Christmas, which would also be very unlikely given the playing staff, then he would be super easy to replace.

*Edit - in addition someone earlier mentioned infrastructure. It is clear to me that Spurs are building a system based on this infrastructure. The coach/manager, whilst hugely important, is only part of this whole system.

Seems bizarre we'd appoint Kompany. Kinda like hiring Frank the plank immediately after Derby, or Stevie G after Rangers. Kompany may be head and shoulders better than those two, but he's gonna need time to show it.

And why would he leave Burnley after such a successful season? Why not see if he can keep it up at a dramatically higher level.

Totally agree with this. People spent so long worrying about Poch leaving when he was at his peak with us.

Have we ever had a manager leave us because they were tapped up for a bigger job? Certainly not in the PL era.

I know Redknapp flirted with England, Jol interviewed at Newcastle and Ramos landed the Real Madrid job shortly after getting sacked by us, but like every other manager I can remember us having they were all eventually sacked for poor results. If we've got to a point where the manager's results are so good that they have warranted a better job, that would immediately puts them as one of the the top 2/3 managers minimum that we've had in the last 30 odd years. Would be annoying for sure but I'd love to have that problem compared to what we usually deal with.

I'm really, really surprised Kompany is being so well received on here. It's impossible for us to judge his Anderlecht performance just by looking at stats because there was a lot of upheaval there but the view from Belgium at the time was that he did quite an underwhelming job. So we'd be appointing a guy who has one good season under his belt, and not even in a top league. This is very similar to when Gerrard was leading a poll here to be our manager a couple of years ago before he got a Premier League chance and was found out.

I understand we can't just appoint proven winners but some experience at this level should surely be a requisite qualification.
