I was up for JN. And Slot. And now Ange.

Yes, we are Tottenham. A ‘big’ club. But we need to be realistic about where we are. We aren’t competing for players with United, Chelsea, Liverpool, City. Or Arsenal. And soon, if not already, Newcastle. So I am not concerned about Ange’s ability to attract that level of player. In fact, from what I’ve seen, read, I’m more convinced that he will fuck off the likes of Dier and PEH et al, who top managers like Jose and Conte kept picking.

We are not competing for a title any time soon, so lets get back to looking like we know how to play football. On the front foot. Give us something to be proud of, Big Ange. Make us smile again, you big Aussie bear.

It's amazing how many people on SC have mates who are Celtic fans. Not only that, but all these 'mates' have heard the same thing. And not only that and that, but all of you have spoken to each individual mate within a few hours of each other. The sequence of coincidences is astounding. I reckon it's the same guy, Tammy McTwitter.
Ive alot of family and friends who are Celtic fans, big old firm fan base over here lol

Sorry, probably leaving out the fact that he had knowledge that aided him in buying relatively cheap players from the J League who were better than what was in Scotland. Not saying he isn't a good manager as he had to show some level of pedigree in Japan for Celtic to come knocking, but this isn't Wheeler Dealers, there's only so much trading up you can do.
Did he take a lot of Aussie players with him to Japan?
Did he use those Aussies to gain success in the J League?

Maybe he took the Japanese lads to Celtic because he saw something in them and thought he could use that talent.
I'd see it more that he can spot a suitable talent. Plenty of managers for back to their old clubs to raid the better players

Look, we don't have a manger and beggers can't be choosers. Frank Lampard would be an upgrade on what we have. I'm not excited about Ange, but wasn't excited about Poch either.

Jeez, I'd rather the players managed themselves than have Lampard anywhere near us! 😁

Tbh I’m just surprised any of us in this thread have any ‘mates’ at all given how much time we spend in here 🤣

Definitely. Also I really believe ,of those clubs you've mentioned , I think Ange would be on their shortlist to take over if they were looking for a new manager.

Worth remembering he made Chelsea's final 3 if Romano is to be believed.

It’s funny because I remember the exact same negative things being said about Big Martin Jol. 20 years ago now. I actually think they’re incredibly similar as candidates.

I agree and called him a new Jol but we also got to be conscious that as a club we are now very different to what we were 20 years ago. Maybe we are as shit now as we were when Jol took over but our stature and expectations are so very different. The competitiveness of the league is now so much stronger than back then. No such thing as a big 6 now.. in my view.

One thing I think some people tend to get wrong is our stature.

Yes, we are a big club BUT we are still having to punch above our weight to win titles (cups not so much). So when people say that we should have an elite coach, it hasn't worked out.

Why?

Well, because those coaches have earnt a position that affords them more resources and they have less patience because they want to win instantly. So if they don't get what they need they start to get irritated.

Coaches like Jose and Conte look at their peers and already believe to be better than them. They don't take losing against them very well and thus try to 'speed up' the process.

That can't happen at a club like Tottenham. Although, we should absolutely be doing better.

Tottenham are 6th highest in the player's salary table. I expect Newcastle to surpass us soon.

That's why we always suit upcoming ambitious coaches who want to go and prove themselves against the best but with a bit of time on their side.

There's no entitlement there from them, so they won't start kicking off about not having resources. They dig deeper to find them and if they lose they take a lesson instead of getting bitter or irritated.

The issue for Levy and co is to realise who has that mentality and who is actually 'a chancer'.

Nuno and AVB were chancers, in this respect. Someone who only had one real way of working and didn't have the mentality to fall back on. ABVB got whiny and went into a mood, whilst Nuno was too one-dimensional with his personality.

Ange doesn't appear to be a chancer and seems like someone who would relish the fight, not going into a sulk or become defeated.

I felt the same about Slot.
Seemed to go down with a fight on this interview

I know there aren't many options open for manager, but really not getting the Ange love in vibes. He succeeded in Celtic mainly because he had experience of the J League and tapped into that resource to win titles with Celtic in Scotland. Open to be corrected, but that shit ain't gonna work in the premier League.

Lucky we have a whole new data led recruitment team to handle signing players then isn't it...

He also won a trophy last season.....

And ideally he wouldve been in charge for our final, and won it.

And then parted ways straight after as he was building nothing and we were on a road to nowhere as we have been the whole time since poch.

I balked at BMJ, I was embarrassed at Redknapp, and Poch was third on my list. All three turned out waaaay better than I thought.
Let’s give our new bloke some support, none of us know who or what.

And the only constant is Levy.... We'll never know what could have been achieved by JM or AC had Levy backed them.... We'd be a different beast had we had some success, whatever ever the playing style was.... Sorry off topic... Ange....🤔.,...👍
